The Ladies Aid is again assembling 50 School Backpacks (at least!) for Lutheran World Relief and would like to ask our congregation and friends to take part in helping to fill the bags with school supplies. We will be collecting until Sept. 20th. God's blessings and thanks to those who open their hearts and minds to the needy in our world.

There is a hunger in this life that no food can satisfy, a parched mouth no liquid can quench.

Of course, we try.

We ravenously devour riches, guzzle entertainments, and ask for seconds and thirds from the dessert table of pleasure.

Give us more, more, and still more. A little more of this, a little more of that. When we have that woman, that man, that job, that raise, that vacation, then we will have enough.

And yet, it is never enough. We gorge ourselves on vanity and chase after the wind.

Fools! We lick up poison while nearby sits a table spilling over with the feast of life.

The Psalmist had it right: “O God, you are my God; earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you; my flesh faints for you” (63:1).

For you!
For you!
For you, O God.

Jesus pours into our dry mouths “living water” (John 4:10). He who is “the bread of life” feeds us (John 6:35). Only in God do we find what will always and truly satisfy.

As fish were made for water and birds for the air, so we are made to swim in God, fly in the heavens of our Lord, and find our joy and meaning and purpose in him.
