Foster+Adopt meeting is this Friday! After dinner, adults will have a game night, so please bring any games you want to play. Kids will watch a Christmas movie (probably "The Star") and are welcome to wear pajamas and bring pillows and blankets.

The Foster+Adopt Group of FBC Bolivar consists of two components with one shared purpose. We are a COMMUNITY of families involved in foster care and adoption, and a NETWORK of people who support them, working together to shine the light and love of God into the hearts of children living in the shadow of foster care and adoption.

Our community meets once a month in the First Baptist Church of Bolivar's fellowship hall. Meetings are a wonderful time for parents to share stories, experiences, resources, and encouragement. Someone recently said to me that people in foster care "breathe different air." It is so refreshing to be in a room with other people who are breathing that same air!

Families may register to bring their children to church with them during the meeting. Childcare is provided by excellent young ladies who are background-checked and CPR-trained. One of my favorite things about our group is the opportunity it creates for our children to make friends with other fostered and adopted children during the meeting times. My two kids truly light up with joy every time they meet another person who is adopted like they are!

Many people have said, "not everyone can be a foster parent, but everyone can help." Our network is made up of those wonderful people who have a desire to help! There are so many big and small ways to help foster families. Our group identifies very specific and practical needs in our community and matches them with the right people or resources in our network to meet the needs. We have compiled a list of many ways you may choose to get involved in our network, including pitching in $10 to buy needed items for a child in a new foster or adoptive home, delivering a meal, and becoming a licensed respite provider.
