Good Morning Bolivar Community Church! We pray you all had a safe and wonderful Memorial Day weekend. Below is our sermon recap from Sunday. Unfortunately, we had some technical difficulties with the recording and so we are not able to share for the replay.
This week’s sermon used the imagery of the TV show Forged in Fire to illustrate how God shapes, strengthens, and equips believers through surrender, preparation, and testing. Just as a blade-smith heats and molds metal into a weapon with purpose, God forms us intentionally into who He created us to be (Jeremiah 18:4; Isaiah 64:8).
A blade cannot become strong unless it is fully heated before being quenched. In the same way, partial surrender to God leads to spiritual weakness. God calls us to trust Him completely and avoid becoming “lukewarm” in our faith (Proverbs 3:5–6; Revelation 3:15–16). True transformation happens only when we fully submit to His refining process.
After forging, a blade receives a handle and guard so it can function effectively. Likewise, God equips believers with spiritual tools to endure life’s challenges. Through prayer, Scripture, and the “armor of God” (Ephesians 6:11–17), we are strengthened and prepared for every good work (2 Timothy 3:16–17).
In the final stage of forging, blades are tested under pressure. Similarly, life’s hardships reveal the condition of our hearts and faith. A well-forged blade withstands impact, while a weak one cracks under stress. Scripture reminds us that God is our refuge during trials and that perseverance produces spiritual maturity (Psalm 46:1; James 1:2–4).
Corben also emphasized the importance of surrounding ourselves with godly community. Referencing Proverbs 27:17 and The Forge, we were reminded that spiritual growth often comes through accountability, encouragement, and honest conversations with other believers.
The message challenged us to embrace God’s refining process rather than resist it. Trials are not signs of abandonment, but evidence that God is strengthening and shaping us for His purpose. When we fully surrender to Him, allow Him to equip us, and lean on Him during testing, we can withstand adversity and emerge stronger in faith.
