Boise First Congregational United Church of Christ

Boise First Congregational United Church of Christ We are an accepting, caring, diverse, progressive community of faith where God’s presence is felt.

We are an “Open and Affirming” congregation that strives to be welcoming to all!! As a part of the United Church of Christ, our roots date back to the Protestant reform movements in England and Europe. Today the UCC reflects its varied history; an evangelical heritage, an emphasis on spiritual development, active social involvement, an ecumenical spirit, and freedom of religious thought and conscience.

🪑 We Need Your Help This Afternoon! 🪑
We have exciting news — thanks to a generous donation from The Care Collective, Boise First UCC is receiving 70 brand new chairs for our fellowship hall!
The Care Collective is a wonderful new ministry that will begin meeting here at the church on Mondays, offering support and community to those living with dementia and their caregivers. These chairs — thoughtfully equipped with arms to make it easier to stand from the table — are a gift that will serve our whole congregation and especially those who need a little extra support.
But here’s where YOU come in: we need volunteers to help assemble them TODAY, starting at 3 PM at the church! Many hands make light work, and this is a great opportunity to show up, serve together, and be part of something that will make a real difference for our community for years to come.
Can you spare an hour (or two) this afternoon? Come on by — we’d love the help! 💛

In January 2025, 60 Boise First volunteers spent MLK Day clearing out an old nursing home to help prepare it for something better. Today, that vision became reality — Sycamore Commons officially opened its doors as affordable senior housing! 🏡
A huge shoutout to Bart Cochran, founder of LEAP Housing and proud Boise First member, whose tireless work made this possible. So grateful to be a congregation that shows up — and gets to see the fruit of it.

Check out the amazing transformation. This is what hope looks like! 🌟

Suppers for Six kicked off with this crazy group! Never hurts to have a few extra friends join in 😀

Suppers for Six is a rotating dinner group designed to help people connect over a shared meal. It’s about building new friendships, deepening old ones, and including others in a meaningful way — all around the table.

Watch for the next round of signups this fall. You can learn more at https://www.boisefirstucc.org/suppers

🕊️ The Fireside Room has been transformed for the Season of Ordinary Time, and it’s breathtaking.

Local artist Gretchen Weitemier has filled the space with her stunning carved paintings, each one an invitation to slow down and feel more deeply. The room centers on empathy — Empathy for the World, Empathy for the Earth, and Empathy of the Spirit — alongside two powerful pieces that push us further: The haunting Sunshine on the Battleground, a meditation on war and the weight it carries.

This season, our Fireside Room asks us: What does it mean to truly understand one another? To seek peace over conflict? To hold the suffering of the world with an open heart?

Gretchen’s work is available for purchase — each piece is displayed with a description and pricing. Whether you’re looking to bring something meaningful into your home or simply want to support a gifted local artist, we invite you to stop by and spend some time in this beautiful space.

🕊️ Happy Pentecost Sunday!
Today at Boise First UCC, we celebrated the gift of the Holy Spirit with hearts full of joy — singing Let It Rise as doves floated up to the ceiling. 🎶🔥
Just as the Spirit descended on those first disciples like wind and fire, may that same Spirit rise in each of us today — lifting our praise, our hope, and our love higher and higher.

The Spirit is alive, the Spirit is moving, and you are so welcome here.
Happy Pentecost! Come, Holy Spirit. 🕊️🔴

In this sermon, we not only celebrate and explore Pentecost, but we reflect on what it means to be a church, and the duty we have to celebrating diversity, and to understand one another.
