During the past several years many of you have sent me money to continue the Mater Cleri Alumni Website. Thanks for that. I received a check in the mail today, so I wanted to let folks know that, while I appreciate the support, it is no longer necessary to do that. When I asked for help it was because of tough times in teacher salaries here. I am retired now, the house is paid off, and I have organized the budget to keep the webpage alive without begging.

Right now the website is still posted and available, but it hasn't been updated or changed for some time. The trouble is that it was authored in Microsoft Front Page, which nobody supports anymore. I can't even update it, because the web hosting companies don't support Front Page protocols anymore. They tell me it will have to be rewritten to be up to date. They tell me that what is there will one day just disappear if I don't update. They recommended that I use Expression Web 4, and CSS -- which I do not know how to use. I am wondering if I can find a class to help me to learn it. If anybody out there is capable, and willing, to help out, let me know.
Thanks, Kelly Hudgens

I have revived a 20 year old film scanner, and paired it with a stand alone XP machine and it works! Now I can finish scanning all of those old MC negatives that I haven't gotten around to yet. There is about 1/4th of them remaining to be scanned.

It seems that the class of '72 held a reunion lately! I "borrowed" the photo from Randy Chapman.

Reunion Update: It seems that a misunderstanding has occurred regarding the August 2018 reunion announcement. The impression was given that this reunion was for ALL alumni, but what was originally planned was a smaller gathering. Please read Mike Kiefel's explanation below so that this can be cleared up. Thanks: ______________________________________________________ Kelly, Larry, Jim,

We need to quell on Facebook the impression that anyone other than those who attended Mater Cleri between 1965 and 1968 (and their significant others) are invited. The reunion is in fact the 50th year anniversary of the 1968 graduates. We want a friendly low-key, low cost gathering. Kelly, your list of people all fell within the years 1965-68, but somehow people I don't know well outside that bracket of MC years think that they're invited too.
This event is not a general reunion for anyone who ever walked the halls of Mater Cleri. It's not fair to Liz and Bob Pike or Sue and Ron Reeves to host a much larger number than we asked them to. Furthermore, the focus on connecting with those we knew well would be diluted by those not knowing the intent of this gathering other than in a generic way. Neither Larry nor I participate in Facebook, so we need Kelly and Jim to clarify this matter in no uncertain terms. I've gotten a few email responses suggesting that I needed to get my info in line with the idea that this event was for everyone who went to MC when in fact Larry and I, who initiated this event, never gave the impression of a general invitation.

Here is a photo that I didn't even know existed until J.L. Drouhard sent it to me a few days ago. He says that his kids found it. I believe this was our senior year.

Daniel Ray Siler died at his home in Eagle, Idaho December 20, 2016. He had been in hospice care since December 14 due to complications of liver disease and diabetes. His wife, Karen Ausburn, sister Cheryl Adkins, and brother, Msgr. Robert Siler, were with him, along with his beloved cats, Mr. Cooper and Savanna.
Dan was born December 17, 1956, in Wenatchee, Wash. to Glenn Siler and Carol (Reigh) Siler, the seventh of their 10 children. He attended St. Joseph Catholic School and Orchard Junior High School in Wenatchee before enrolling at Mater Cleri Seminary in Colbert, Wash. When the seminary closed in 1974 he attended Wenatchee High School, graduating in 1975.
Dan studied the growing field of computers at Seattle Central Community College. Armed with a diploma and a new suit, he was quickly employed by the Environmental Protection Agency to help with a computer transition. When Hewlett-Packard made the same transition a few years later, Dan joined the HP staff as a software engineer, beginning a decades-long career with the company. He worked in Lake Stevens, Wash.; Colorado Springs, Colo.; and finally Boise, and traveled widely for HP both in the U.S. and abroad.
It was in Colorado that Dan met Karen, an HP employee herself, noted for taking new employees under her wing. Dan knew he had met his soulmate. Karen took some convincing, but he wooed her with the same creativity and care with which he wrote innovative software. They married in 1999. She enjoyed “seeing the world” with Dan on many of his trips.
After leaving HP during a company restructuring, Dan worked for Micron, then Supervalu in Boise, until his illnesses made it impossible to work. He had hoped to receive a liver transplant, but became too ill for the procedure. His prospective donor, Cami Kidder of Los Angeles, was able to come for a final visit during his last week so that he and Karen could thank her personally for her willingness to help, and for the hope her generosity gave them.
Dan’s younger sister, Mary Jarman, and her husband Mike also were able to visit, and Dan received an outpouring of calls from his relatives, including a special call from “Uncle Jack,” Karen’s uncle, retired city magistrate Jack Allison, 90, known as the
“Singing Judge” of Gaffney, S.C., who sang “Happy Birthday” to him over the phone, and prayed with him, one of many signs of affection he received from his family before his death.
Dan is survived by his mother, Carol (Siler) Yetter, 88, of Wenatchee, and his nine siblings: Terry (Tom) McEachern; Steve (Trixie) Siler, Cheryl (Russ) Adkins; Jerry (Janeene) Siler; Joel (Judy) Siler; David (Marie) Siler; Msgr. Robert Siler; Mary (Mike) Jarman; and Carl (Brenda) Siler, along with many cousins, nieces and nephews, and their children and grandchildren.
The family is especially grateful to the staff of Keystone Hospice for the outstanding care they provided during Dan’s last days, as well as the fine medical care provided to him at St. Alphonsus Hospital and throughout the Boise medical community. The family is also grateful to Dr. Kiran Bambha, formerly a member of the liver transplant team at the University of Colorado Hospital in Denver, who never wavered in her advocacy for Dan.
Funeral services will be announced at a later date.

HATCHER, Reno
Eugene, Jr.
Passed away peacefully at home on November 17, 2016 surrounded by family. He was born to the late Ethel W. and Reno E. "Shine" Hatcher, Sr. on December 3, 1924 in Clark Fork, Idaho, the oldest of three children. Reno worked his summers as a teenager, manning forest fire lookout towers in North Idaho. One summer, he was called to serve his country in World War II. He joined the Navy and became a Pharmacist's Mate, serving in the South Pacific. Upon returning home from the war, he ordered a coke from a black-haired beauty working the soda fountain named Kelsey McNearney. He would lovingly tease Kelsey, "I ordered a coke with cherry that cost me a nickel and every dime I earned afterwards". Reno and Kelsey were married August 21, 1948 in Clark Fork and later moved to Spokane. They eventually welcomed nine children, 23 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren and were married for nearly 68 happy years when Kelsey passed away on August 4, 2016. Reno was a hard-working man of faith, kindness, and humor. Reno attended Gonzaga University and took a position with Washington Water Power, training to be a cost accountant. He stayed with the company and retired after 37 years in 1990. Reno and Kelsey were active members of St. Francis of Assisi Parish, where Reno volunteered and served as a Eucharistic Minister for many years. He also served on the board for the St. Vincent De Paul Society. Reno took on everything in life with a smile and a great sense of humor. He loved to tell stories about growing up in Clark Fork, especially the antics of his younger brother, Floyd. His stories and wisecracks were always delivered with a twinkle in his eye and a big laugh. Reno often reminisced about the joy of dancing with Kelsey in their younger years and throughout their life together. They could be seen dancing and smiling together at every family celebration where there was music, and they often would go out dancing after Reno retired. Reno adored Kelsey, and it showed on the dance floor. He wanted nothing more than to be with her again at the end of his days. Reno was preceded in death by the love of his life, Kelsey McNearney Hatcher; daughter and son-in-law, Mary Kate and Blaine Weber; daughter-in-law Lisa Hatcher; brother Floyd Hatcher; and sister, Merle Hatcher Erickson. He is survived by his sons, Fr. Michael (Gita) Hatcher, Chuck (Carol) Hatcher, Tim (Beth Carroll) Hatcher, Barry (Ivy) Hatcher, Sean (Terra) Hatcher, and Shane (Morgan) Hatcher, all of Spokane; daughters, Shannon (Kip) Conley of Spokane and Darcie (Mark) Haigwood of Boise, Idaho; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Visitation will be at Hennessey Funeral Home, 2203 N. Division on Friday, November 25th from Noon until 6PM with the Rosary immediately following in the Rose Chapel. Funeral mass and celebration of Reno's life will be held at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 1104 W. Heroy, Spokane, WA 99205 on Saturday, November 26th at 11:00 AM. Graveside services will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery at 1PM. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in his memory to St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church or Catholic Charities, P O Box 2253, Spokane, WA, 99210.
