Part of the service on Sept. 4 included this to ponder as part of the pre-service quiet time.
"Do more than exist:
live.
Do more than touch,
feel.
Do more than look,
observe.
Do more than read,
absorb.
Do more than hear,
listen.
Do more than think,
ponder.

"Compassion is the greatest transforming power of the Universe. It is the most humble and the most gentle power of the creation"
-- Bukrate.com

We are asked to be humble and to walk with God. It means to support others in their search for peace and understanding as we search for these ourselves. It is to be quietly compassionate. As it says in the Peace Covenant: taken from Daily Bread 2012, pg 275: "God, I will stand back and let others go before me, so they will be affirmed." Isn't this also affirming of our best selves?

Steve Veazey’s address “A Time to Act”

“The future church is being formed by a basic concept: Our chief purpose is to birth, nurture, and multiply communities of disciples and seekers engaged in spiritual formation and compassionate ministry and action. This basic blueprint—spiritual formation, community, compassionate ministry and action – is true to the vision of Christ.
 President Stephen Veasey’s address, “A Time to Act.” Taken from C of C Boise service on Sacrament Sunday, July 3, 2022

People are like other beautiful creations:`` we come in a variety of colors, shapes and sizes. Appreciate the uniqueness of others and what we can share with each one.

Every minute someone leaves this world behind.
We are all in “the line” without knowing it.
We never know how many people are before us.
We can not move to the back of the line.
We can not step out of the line.
We can not avoid the line.

So while we wait in line -

Make moments count.
Make priorities.
Make the time.
Make your gifts known.
Make a nobody feel like a somebody.
Make your voice heard.
Make the small things big.
Make someone smile.
Make the change.
Make love.
Make up.
Make peace.
Make sure to tell your people they are loved.
Make sure to have no regrets.
Make sure you are ready. Wishing you consideration of what’s important that sometimes gets lost in the shuffle. So: This week “make.”

"Today, God, I will sing a new song of peace and justice."
--Daily Bread 2012, Sunday, May 6, "Share Boldly," Jane Gardner.

We have a wide vista before us all-- vast horizons of possibilities. Yes, there are many constraints (work, family responsibilities, financial concerns, etc.), but there are still endless possibilities if we but take a moment to listen for the inner voice of peace and doing what is just and kind. Let that appreciation drown out the distractions; let that voice say "Thank you." It can be a whisper.

___ Daily Bread, 2012, pg 40. "Choose Gratitude."

Sometimes our shores are rocky, but if we look to the fact that tides ebb and flow, then we see that hope comes with each new tide.

Wisdom comes from many sources. Today we look at the idea of poison. What is poison? What may we do today to try to lessen the poison that may be entering our lives? Will we foster the poisoning of our minds and bodies, or will we chose the path of love, hope, joy and peace of the Mission Statement?

" If you want to be trusted, be honest." -- Anonymous

While this quotation doesn't always mean to tell everything when it means to break a confidence, one must weigh the greater good. Does it keep your or another's integrity intact? Will it reveal another's dishonesty and lead to justice?

There are similarities in the questions we must ask ourselves. Today, we must ask ourselves how we will respond as a church, as a nation and personally to world issues. Will we keep our integrity, both personal and political? Where is justice served? Will we be dishonest with ourselves and with others? Have others been dishonest with us? Will we provide for those less fortunate? These are the decisions that face us on a daily bases.

“Living is a form of not being sure, not knowing what next or how… We guess we may be wrong, but we take leap after leap in the dark.” -- Agnes De Mille

Indeed, we are never sure of what will enter our lives. We can make plans and take precautions, but there is no guarantee. Life is always a leap of faith. However, it is best to leap towards something that is more likely to have as its foundation that which fosters kindness, peace, love and hope.

(Recently this Agnes De Mille quotation became very apt in our personal lives due to several bouts of illness and resulting travel changes, Sincerely hope to be able to get back to a weekly posting for your consideration).
