This past week, Sacred Heart’s Respect Life ministry gave a powerful witness to what it means to be a living Catholic parish.
Through the generosity of so many parishioners, this year’s annual “baby shower” brought in a tremendous collection of baby clothes, diapers, blankets, and essential supplies for young mothers in need. The parish also raised funds toward 7 car seats, helping meet a critical safety need for these families.
These gifts will go to mothers connected with Stanton Healthcare, PATH, and Cardinal Academy—women who are often facing difficult or uncertain circumstances, yet courageously choosing life and working to build a future for themselves and their children. Cardinal Academy, in particular, supports expectant mothers in continuing their education and earning their high school diploma.
Because of government regulations, car seats provided to these organizations must be new (store-bought) and cannot be hand-me-downs, which makes financial contributions to the Respect Life ministry especially important and deeply appreciated.
Coordinator Judy Walker extends her heartfelt thanks to everyone who contributed. While the needs are always greater than what can be fully met, your generosity will make a real and immediate difference in the lives of these mothers and their babies.
This is the Gospel lived out. In these simple, concrete acts of charity, we see the Corporal Works of Mercy in action—caring for the vulnerable, supporting mothers, and helping provide for those in need. It is a reminder that our Catholic faith is not just something we profess, but something we do.
Thank you to Judy, and to Terri, JoAnne, Robbie, Carolyn, Janey, and all who helped organize and contribute. Because of you, Sacred Heart continues to be a parish that is alive—faithful, generous, and rooted in love.
The Respect Life ministry is always in need of additional volunteers, especially younger women who have a passion for life and a desire to serve. If you feel called to get involved, please watch the parish bulletin for upcoming meetings or contact the church office to be put in touch with Judy.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, we entrust these mothers and their children to your care. Watch over them, protect them, and obtain for them the grace, strength, and support they need. We thank you for your intercession, through which these lives have been welcomed into the world. Pray for them, and pray for us, that we may always defend and cherish the gift of life. Amen.
