She Rises - Women Leading in Scripture
"Deborah: Prophet, Judge & Commander"
(Judges 2:16-18; 4:1-10; 5:1-7)
Some stories have been there all along, but we have not always been taught to hear and value them. Women are present from the beginning: bearing God’s image, leading worship, judging with wisdom, interpreting Scripture, resisting empire, advocating for justice, proclaiming resurrection, teaching the faith, hosting the church, serving as deacons, and being named among the apostles. This Summer, we are not forcing women into the biblical story. We are learning to notice how often women whom God has already called, equipped, and sent are at the center of God’s liberating, reconciling, justice-making work, as we take a look at twelve women leaders in our series: “She Rises – Women Leading in Scripture.”
