Summer Sermon Series at BCF begins this Sunday: The Kingdom of God

Have you ever stopped to consider the overall storyline of Scripture? In other words, what is the overarching message of Scripture that is relayed throughout its sixty-six books written by approximately forty different authors over roughly fifteen-hundred years in three original languages? In this summer’s sermon series at BCF, we will learn that the Bible tells one unified story about Jesus Christ, who has come both to redeem the world from sin, and to reign as the eternal King. At the conclusion, my prayer is that you will be equipped to engage in conversations with neighbors and strangers and ask if they would like to know what the whole Bible is about in less than three minutes! And for our own study, knowing the overall story of Scripture will help us know how all of the various parts of Scripture fit together in the story. Come learn how the Kingdom of God is the central storyline of Scripture.

Sunday services are held at Voss Middle School at 9 AM. We hope to see you there!

Paul's shipwreck on Malta wasn't just about survival—it was about God bringing the gospel to people who had never heard the name of Jesus. These "barbarians," as they were called, showed extraordinary kindness to 276 shipwrecked strangers. And what happened next changed their island forever.

Here's the convicting truth: Paul wrote that he was "indebted" to share the gospel with everyone—Greeks AND barbarians. That means we carry the same debt. There are people in our lives, maybe even people we've written off as "not like us," who desperately need to hear about Jesus. Who are the barbarians in your life that God is calling you to reach?

The gospel is for ALL people. Even us who were once barbarians ourselves.

Ever feel like you're caught in life's storm, desperately praying for God to remove it? Acts 27 reminds us of a powerful truth: God doesn't always save us FROM the storm—He saves us THROUGH it.

Paul's treacherous voyage to Rome teaches us that it's IN the storm where we truly see God's glory. When 276 people faced certain death at sea, God delivered every single one safely to shore—not by calming the waves, but by His sovereign power working through the chaos. The glory of Christ cannot be adequately understood outside of tribulation.

What storm are you facing today? Instead of praying "God, remove this," try asking "God, show me what You're doing. Show me Your glory through this." Trust wholly in the Lord who commands even the winds and waves. He will deliver you to His intended destination.

Our God is a God who saves through. Always has been. Always will be.

In the courtroom drama of Acts 25 and 26, the Apostle Paul stands before the Roman governor Festus, and the Jewish King Agrippa II, as well as a room full of powerful military leaders and dignitaries, and preaches the Gospel through his own personal conversion on the road to Damascus. Our personal testimonies to the lordship of Jesus Christ powerfully impress upon our hearers the truth of God's plan of salvation, and finish with an invitation to respond. "Do you believe?"

God is sovereign over all nations and rulers. Whether we agree with our leaders or not, they are placed in their positions by God for His purposes. Daniel 2 reminds us that He removes kings and sets up kings.

BCF is a family-focused church. John Piper gets our attention when he highlights the benefit of having our children in the worship service with the family of God. The lasting impression of 650 worship services teaches them how to be a part of the church, as opposed to being a program of the church.

The job of the church is to help mom and dad disciple their children. We are not here to supplant you as disciples of your children. We're here to supplement you as you make disciples of your children.

Is the church the bride of Christ in your heart? Do you love her? Do you belong to her? Jesus loves his church like a bridegroom loves his bride.

Maybe you're not feeling joyful today. That's okay. Joy isn't just an emotion—it's a disposition, a gift deposited in you by the Holy Spirit. It's there, waiting to be fanned into flame through God's Word, through worship, through fellowship with His people. (John 16:22)
