What’s up Anchored Students!

What a crazy year we have faced! And now, in some shape or from, we head back to school! I know you have begun classes online and may soon be back on campus. It has been an unpredictable year and the future is uncertain. I know all these unknowns can stir up some anxiety. A new school year can be exciting! A new adventure awaits you with the possibility of exciting new memories to come. Some of you are attending a new school, and with that comes anxiety and a sense of wonder. There is also anxiety that comes with moving up a new grade, and a whole lot of pressure—harder classes, more homework. And many of you have the future in mind as with the added pressure of preparing for college. Does this new school year have you feeling anxious? Do you desire more for this year than last year? Are you looking for adventure? Is there a sense of wonder that is stirring in your hearts? What will this year bring for you?

Joshua 1:9 says, “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go." Joshua was taking on a big task! And God told him many times to be courageous! What great reminder! How encouraging is it to read these words? This school year, take heart that as you walk through bad days, work on tough projects, try out for something extracurricular, or face the drama that comes with schools and relationship. Just as God was with Joshua, He will walk through it all with you. He is with you wherever you go, and He will be with you through whatever you face.

Let me add this final thought. It's advice from the apostle Paul in Philippians 4:6, “Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done.” Let’s make this year a year of prayer! Use this year, and all that will come with it, as a chance to deepen your prayer life with God. Who knows? This just might become one of the greatest years of your life.

Don’t be anxious. Remember, God is with you. Don’t be anxious. Instead, pray. I will be praying for you and praying with you, and I will always be here to remind you about how awesome our God is.

As Dorian strengthens and continues his slow crawl our way, we’ve made the decision to cancel our services this Sunday, September 1, 2019, so that everyone can focus on preparations and precautions. We urge everyone to stay safe and keep alert as to the ever-changing conditions. We’ll be praying that everyone is safe and secure and ask that you do the same.

A very full day in NYC! Today, our student spent the entire day serving at the West African Center in The Bronx. They spent the the whole day teaching English. We have countless testimonies of how God has been using the student here! They have been working incredibly hard and taking advantage of every opportunity to share the love of Jesus! T

Another amazing day in NYC! Our students continued to share the love of Jesus around Jackson Heights. We started the morning walking around the community praying for areas that the ministries here are trying to reach. We visited a Buddhist & Hindu Temple and attended a training on how to share the Gospel with muslims. Our students have been learning about the beliefs of these different religions and how we can most effectively share Christ with them. In the afternoon, we hosted a kids camp in the park. We taught a Bible story, performed a skit, painted faces, made crafts, and had a ton of fun with the children. The ministries we are partnering with do out reach in the parks to connect new families to their ministry and gain influence in the community. Please be praying for our students tomorrow as they have a very full day teaching ESL at the Western Africa Center. (today's photos will be posted soon!)

Our students did an incredible job sharing the love of Christ on a very busy day here in NYC! When we stepped off the subway this morning in Jackson Heights it became clear pretty quickly that we weren't in Boca anymore! Jackson Heights one of the most diverse areas in the world. Throughout the day we often forgot that we didn't leave the country for this mission trip! The students started the day teaching an ESL class with people from all over the globe! Then we went to a park and passed out bottles of water and flyers. We took a tour of a Hindu Temple and learned about one of the religions of many of the people we are ministering to. Then they finished off the day teaching ESL again. They are doing an unbelievable job! Through countless subway rides, bus trips, and long walk they have been sharing Jesus with people all over the city! (MAKE sure you check out the photos we've posted) Please keep our students in prayer as they continue to share the gospel! Tomorrow we will be teaching ESL classes and hosting a kids camp in the park!
