The Baptismal Covenant of the UMC includes the question: "Do you accept the freedom and power God gives you to resist evil, injustice, and oppression in whatever forms they present themselves?" How is Christ calling you to resist?

At Abundant Grace, we value the opportunity to study together and welcome thoughtful questioning, deep sharing, and even light-hearted reactions. As we grow together as a new faith community, we've examined the work of a variety of authors. We have our favorites, yet we are still interested in and committed to continuing to explore our faith and practice from new perspectives.

We began the year in these two books and we are still making our way through them. Sunday we are on Chapter 18 of N.T. Wright's book and Wednesday we are on Chapter 14 of Richard Rohr's. You do not have to have the book to participate, just interest and presence. If you aren't able to join us in person, I recommend these books and welcome your insights and questions.

You are loved just as you are.

You are enough just as you are.

The world is a better place because of you, just as you are.

You have a seat at the table, just as you are.

Everyone is made in God’s image…beautifully…individually…everyone…no exceptions.

This world can be a cruel place, but don’t be discouraged. The “deeply religious” people of Jesus’ day used Holy Scriptures out of context to condemn him, too.

You may not be welcome at every table, but at Christ’s table, you are! There is a place for you at His table.

You belong. Just as you are.

As Abundant Grace took shape as a new community of faith, we spent many months discerning how God was calling us forward. During that time, a friend introduced me to the poetry of Karen Kaiser. Her poem "Louder" expresses how we value diversity and expounds on what we mean when we claim the motto "Open hearts. Open minds. Open doors." - Pastor Carol

It's a great day to get a taste of life in the newest United Methodist community of faith in Marshall County, AL.

Today in our 9 AM study, we will hear from retired missionaries, Rev. LaMon & Pat Brown. At 10 AM we gather for worship with Holy Communion - where the sacrament is always available to all who seek to be at peace with God and all people. Following worship, we will pack meal bags to send home from school with students whose families need support. Hang around afterward and join us for lunch at a local restaurant!
