COLUMBUS, Ohio — Firefighters responded to a fire at a southwest Columbus church early Monday morning that may have been sparked by lightning.
Fire crews were called to the Cherry Creek Church of Christ in the 4900 block of Sullivant Avenue just after 3:50 a.m.
Officials for the Columbus Division of Fire said no one was inside the building as crews worked to put the fire out.
Battalion Chief Brian Barnhart said it's believed a lightning strike may have led to the fire.
10TV's Marsha Augustin was at the scene and said heavy flames were seen coming from the roof of the building. Part of the roof appeared to have collapsed.
According to a fire report obtained by 10TV on Wednesday, lightning was listed as the heat source of the fire.
