Hi Church,

This coming Sunday, June 7th at Willow Lake Church at 10am we will continue our Summer Sermon Series “Genesis: The Book of Beginnings – Part 2” with a message titled “A Slump and A Bump” from Genesis 12:10-20. Even those who we consider godly are not perfect and can suffer a spiritual slump. Abraham started out with a pioneering sort of faith when God told him to “Get out of your country...to a land that I will show you.” Gen.12:1 Now just because we start out with great faith does not necessarily mean that we will continue on with that faith. Sometimes we are led by fear and that fear can lead to a compromise or a “bump” in our spiritual road. As a believer, what should we do when we encounter a test or a trial on our spiritual journey to the “Promised Land?” Come find out this Sunday at 10am! (Also, on Sunday we will also be having an “Exploring Church Membership Class” after church. We will be ordering pizza so if you have not joined the church but perhaps are considering it, join us this Sunday. Please let me know by this Wednesday, June 3rd, if you plan to attend the class so we can print up enough booklets and order enough pizza for all who attend.)

Hi Church,

So much of our Christian life depends on our personal Faith. Why? Because when we have faith, it makes a bold statement. It says, “God I believe in Your existence and that You will reward my personal faith. This Sunday, May 31st, at 10am at Willow Lake Church my sermon title is “Going not Knowing” from Genesis 12:1 “’Get out of your country, from your family and from your father’s house, to a land that I will show you.’...4a So Abram departed as the Lord had spoken to him...” Hebrews 11:8 “Be faith Abraham obeyed...and he went out, not knowing where he was going.” Faith begins when we believe God and our faith is accounted to us as righteousness in God’s eyes and we start on a spiritual journey much like Abram did on his physical journey to the Promised Land. Romans 4:3b “Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness.” Is God calling you into an unfamiliar land? A New Job? A New Relationship? If so, don’t be afraid of the pioneering journey! Does your faith need a little boost as you take your first steps? How can this happen? Come find out this Sunday at 10am. Please don’t forget all of our Small Group Bible Studies for all ages at 9am. (This coming Sunday, May 31st, will be our last Small Group Bible Study until the fall.)

Stretching our Faith Together,

Pastor Jeff

P.S. Please don’t forget to Pray in May each day at home or on the job and at the church each Wednesday at 6pm. (Come on time so you can enjoy a hot Chic-Fil-A sandwich together before we pray. We will be extending our Pray in May throughout the Summer on Wednesdays at 6pm into June, July, and August.) 5-26-26

Hi Church,

We just started a new sermon series last Sunday called “Genesis: The Book of Beginnings – Part 2.” This Sunday, May 24th at 10am at Willow Lake Church my sermon title is “The Tower of Babel” from Genesis 11. It has been said that “Man proposes but God positions.” Prov. 19:21 “There are many plans in a man’s heart, Nevertheless the Lord’s counsel—that will stand.” So often we have an idea of how our lives, as believers, should be lived and we move about to fulfill those ideas. Yet how important it is to pray and seek God’s direction for our lives because it is “God’s counsel that will stand.”Prov.19:21 The Tower of Babel in Genesis 10 illustrates the rebellious and prideful nature of man. God had commanded the people to “be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth”(Genesis 9:1), yet they remained in the plain of Shinar with an attitude of pride. What was it about this attitude that caused God to scatter them? Can this attitude even affect us, as believers, today? Come find out this Sunday at 10am! Please don’t forget all of our Small Group Bible Studies for all ages at 9am on Sundays as well. Remember this Sunday we will be having a Cookout after church so please plan on staying and fellowshipping with us around the dinner table. ***Also don’t forget to Pray in May at 6pm each day and at the church at 6pm on Wednesdays. (For those who have signed up, we will have a hot Chick-Fil-A sandwich waiting for you each Wednesday and we will pray right after we eat.)

Hi Church,

This coming Sunday, May 17th at Willow Lake Church at 10am, we will continue a sermon series that we began last year called “Genesis- The Book of Beginnings – Part 2.” My message title is called “After the Flood” from Genesis 9. After the flood, God makes an everlasting covenant with all of mankind, and it is called the Noahic Covenant. The specific promise of this covenant was to never destroy this world again by water. The sign of this Covenant was the rainbow. Gen.9:11 “Thus I establish My covenant with you: Never again shall all flesh be cut off by the waters of the flood; never again shall there be a flood to destroy the earth.”12 And God said: “This is the sign of the covenant which I make between Me and you, and every living creature that is with you, for perpetual generations: 13 I set My rainbow in the cloud, and it shall be for the sign of the covenant between Me and the earth.” John MacArthur wrote, “Rainbows have preoccupied cultures throughout the history of man.” Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz sang, “Somewhere over the rainbow Skies are blue /And the dreams that you dare to dream/Really do come true.” Even Kermit the Frog sang, “Someday we'll find it/The rainbow connection/The lovers, the dreamers, and me.” What does the biblical rainbow mean for us, as believers, and how is it relevant for us today? Come find out this Sunday at 10am. Please don’t forget all of our Small Group Bible Studies for all ages at 9am.

Hi Church,

Thankyou for praying in May with me and for me and for our church! Many of you had committed to praying in May every day at 6pm and at the church on Wednesdays in May at 6pm. We had about 25 or 26 of this past Wednesday at the church. We had Chic-Fil-A sandwiches for everyone and we reordered from Chic-Fil-A again for this coming Wednesday night at 6pm. I believe that God is answering our prayers and doing something wonderful at Willow Lake Church!!! Come and be part of it! We will eat tomorrow, Wednesday, May 13th at 6pm and start prayer at about 6:15pm. Hope to see everyone back again for prayer! (If you have someone new coming with you for prayer, please let me know asap so we will have enough food for everyone!)

Hi Church,

This coming Sunday, May 10th is Mother’s Day. At Willow Lake Church, we will be honoring all of our mothers on this special day! There will be no Small Group Bible Studies on this day so everything will begin at 10am. My message is titled “Biblical Mom-ology 101.” The term ‘ology’ comes from the Greek word “logia” which means “study.” Typically for a freshman in college, a required course for graduation started with something like an English 101 class which was just a beginning or a refresher course in English. This Sunday we will do a brief study from the Bible on Motherhood. Where would we be without our mothers? Abraham Lincoln said, “No one is poor who had a godly mother.” One pastor wrote, “In spite of what you may have heard, the role of motherhood is the most dignified, the most influential, and the most rewarding in all the world.” For this reason, we will go through a “Mom-ology “ from God’s Word to help mom’s and all on her team to wisely build our homes. Proverbs 24:3 “Through wisdom a house is built, and by understanding it is established; 4 By knowledge the rooms are filled with all precious and pleasant riches.” Remember there will be no Small Group Bible Studies on this special day, May 10th – Mother’s Day.

Pastor Jeff

P.S. If your mom is still alive, call her up and tell her that you love her very much, send her a card, get her flowers, and buy her favorite candy or do all four of these things and then take her out to eat!

Hey Prayer Warriors,

Please don’t forget that our “Pray in May” begins tomorrow at 6pm for the whole month of May and my prayer is that many of you will continue this prayer at home and at the church for the rest of your lives! Eph. 6:18 “Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all saints.”

Hi Church,

Debbie and I will welcome our Columbia Metro Baptist Association Director, Jamie Rogers, this Sunday, May 3rd at 10am. Jamie will be preaching at 10am and he will also be talking to the men’s class at 9am as well. Jamie dreams with Columbia-area Baptist churches about how we can all be better at fulfilling the Great Commission together as an association. Rogers previously served as the Baptist Collegiate Ministry Director on the campus of the University of South Carolina. He has been the senior pastor to churches in South Carolina, North Carolina, and New York, where he served as a church planter with the North American Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention. Jamie and his wife Tasha have four children – Matthan, Anna Beth, Ruthie, and Josie. They are members at North Trenholm Baptist in Columbia. Jamie is an excellent pastor and preacher! I know you will be inspired, encouraged, and uplifted as you hear him preach this Sunday! Please bring a friend and come! Please don’t forget all of our Small Group Bible Studies for all ages at 9am. (There will be no work day this Saturday!)

Pastor Jeff

P.S. My message for Mother’s Day, May 10th is titled “Biblical Mom-ology 101.”

Hi Church,

Webster defines commitment as giving in trust or to bind as by a promise. Today, as never before, the strength of commitment is being replaced by a thin veneer of etiquette that is often overwhelmed by convenience. When convenience overwhelms commitment, promises made are not kept, trust is replaced by skepticism, and solving problems are often masked by conveniently running away. Yet as believers, we are called to a life of commitment to God first and then to each other. Matthew 22:37 “Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” This lack of commitment, that seems to plague all of us to a certain degree, is the reason that many lack in character because commitment builds character. I like the quote from Vince Lombardi who said, “Most people fail, not because of lack of desire, but because of a lack of commitment.” My message for this Sunday, April 26th at 10am at Willow Lake Church is titled “The Power of Commitment.” Please attend our Small Group Bible Studies for all ages at 9am. This Sunday after church we will be staying for a cookout on the shaded pavilion, and everyone is invited. Please bring a friend and stay and enjoy the fellowship and the food!

Hi Church,

Sooner or later, we will all experience something in life that goes wrong? James 1: 2 “My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials,” A key word in that Bible verse is “when” not if. Most of us have already traveled down that road a time or two, yet it is never easy. The message for this coming Sunday, April 19th at 10am at Willow Lake Church is titled “Where is God’s love when life goes wrong?” from John 11:25-26. This message is a very practical and relevant one that all of us can relate to and need! Our deacon and still full-time missionary, Joe Henry will be preaching this very important message so please come and even bring a friend! Debbie and I will be traveling to my Alma mater, Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virgina on Thursday for a 70s reunion with many of my classmates that I probably will have a difficult time recognizing or even remembering. LOL! We will be returning Saturday morning to be in church to hear Joe preach and I will look forward to seeing you then! Please don’t forget all of our Small Group Bible Studies for all ages at 9am.
