Hi Church,

I think sometimes we long for something new and the good news is that God has the power to even reverse the order of nature to accomplish something new!!! Isaiah 43:19 “See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the desert and streams in the wasteland.” Can God still do something new even today in our lives and our church? The answer is Yes!!! My message for this Sunday, September 6 at 10am is called “Waking Early.” Over and over again in Scripture God calls us to be Awake! 1 Thess. 5:5 “You are all children of the light and children of the day. We do not belong to the night or to the darkness. 6 So then, let us not be like others, who are asleep, but let us be AWAKE and sober.” Why does God want us to be awake? When I go hunting up in Ohio, I wake up early at 4:30am because if I am not prepared early, I can miss out on a great opportunity to get Bambi’s grandfather!!! The tendency for all believers is to get spiritually drowsy and when we do this, we too, can miss out on a spiritual adventure! Please don’t forget about all of our Small Group Bible Studies for all ages on Sunday’s at 9am. Tomorrow night at the church at 6pm is Prayer. We will have Arby’s Roast Beef Sandwiches at 6pm and for everyone at 6pm (YUM!) and then pray right after we eat!

Hi Church,

Skier Francis Zuber was zipping down the tree lined slopes of Mt. Baker in northwestern Washington state when he lost control and ended up toppling into the deep powder off the trail. As he worked to right himself, he noticed a snow board protruding from a deep drift. It took him only moments to realize that someone was attached to that board but apparently buried upside down under the depths of the drift. (I can’t even imagine the hopeless feeling of that skier.) He began feverishly digging to extricate him. Zuber, an unlikely and unexpected hero, stepped up to rescue a stranger from certain death. Like an exuberant skier, we go zipping over the rough and tumble slopes of this life, so engrossed in our own thrills (and spills), that we fail to notice the mass of humanity all around us, buried upside down in the drifts of life. My message for this Sunday, at Willow Lake Church at 10am is the last in our sermon series called “Pulling the Pin” on the 7 Behaviors that undermine love” and is called “Overcoming Hopelessness.” 1Cor. 13:7b “Love always...hopes...” Francis Zuber reminds me of the Good Samaritan in Luke 10:33b “and when he saw him, he took pity on him. He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he put the man on his own donkey, brought him to an inn and took care of him.” No doubt this bruised and beaten man felt a sense of hopelessness as he lay dying in the street. Many passed by him, walked around him, ignored him. Then one man finally noticed him, took pity, and stepped in to help. Does God call us to anything less? No! In fact, He calls us to something more. He calls us to not just “happen” upon these dying ones, but actively, intentionally, purposefully keep our eyes peeled for them, peeled for any signs of life, so that we can jump into action to offer them a lifeline — the good news of the Gospel. So what can we do to overcome hopelessness around us? Come find out this Sunday at 10am! Please don’t forget all of our Small Group Bible Studies for all ages at 9am. Hi Church,

You have heard me say on many occasions, “Your attitude is the Prophet of your Future.” F***y Crosby was blind since childhood and lived to be ninety-five. She wrote this poem at age eight: “O what a happy soul am I! Although I cannot see, I am resolved that in this world, Contented I will be; How many blessings I enjoy that other people don’t! To weep and sigh because I’m blind, I cannot and I won’t.” I love that encouraging attitude but sometimes because of circumstances or unfulfilled expectations, we can get discouraged and down. It’s not a sin to be discouraged but it is a powerful feeling that often overwhelms us like a little boat in the middle of a Tsunami. What can we do? If there was any biblical character that struggled with giving up, it was Job! I can’t imagine the grief and heartache that he endured yet after losing so much, he said in Job 1:21 “Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked I will depart. The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away; may the name of the Lord be praised.” NIV How did Job endure it all? Come find out this Sunday at Willow Lake Church at 10am. The title of my message is “Overcoming Giving Up.” Please don’t forget all of our Small Group Bible Studies for all ages will begin this Sunday, August 16th at 9am. Please don’t forget our Wednesday night Prayer time at 6pm. Luke 18:1 “Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up.”

Hi Church,

This coming Sunday at Willow Lake Church, August 9th at 10am my message is titled “Overcoming Falsehoods and Deceit.” 1Cor. 13:6 “Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. Eph.4:25 Therefore each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfully to your neighbor, for we are all members of one body.” NIV Dr. Phil tells us that people are lied to between 10 and 200 times a day, so for this reason, many become skeptical of almost everything today! There was a noted physician that appeared on talk show and proclaimed, “Lying is an important part of social life and children who are unable to lie are children who may have developmental problems.” How would you like to have a physician that lies to you? Trust is based on truthfulness. You have heard me say this many times over the years that “Truth and Trust are foundational for any meaningful relationship. When you have consistent truth and trust, you build up credibility! This credibility is vital to possess for believers and the church today! Why? Come find out this Sunday at 10am! Bring a friend!

Hi Church,

I was in the parking lot of Food Lion in Blythewood a few days ago when I saw a few people in the middle of a parking lot yelling, arguing, and perhaps even threatening each other in anger. When we get provoked or angry and refuse to forgive, love can be hurt, diminished, or even extinguished. Why is love so important?

First, it is a command for all believers to follow. John 13:34 “I give you a new command: Love one another. Just as I have loved you, you must also love one another.” HCSB
Second, it is a brand for all believers to show. John 13:35 “By this all people will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.” HCSB
Third, It is a universal language that is as essential to us as air, water, and food. 1Cor.13:13 “Now these three remain...faith, hope, and love. But the greatest of these is love.”HCSB

We long for love and we need it to change our lives and it’s a legacy that we can pass on to others, yet sometimes it’s gone. Why? 1Cor. 13:5 “Love... is not provoked, and does
not keep a record of wrongs.” When we get angry, keep records, and we don’t forgive, love can be hurt, diminished, or even extinguished. How can we forgive when we are wronged? Come find out the answer this Sunday at Willow Lake Church at 10am! Hi Church,

Another description of love is something else that love does not do. 1Cor.13:5 “Love...does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked.” Back in 1991 Robin Williams starred as Peter Pan in a movie called “Hook.” In the movie a young teen named Rufio Was envious of Peter Pan and they got into a escalating name calling contest. Peter Pan won the name calling contest by telling Rufio that he was a “Lude, Crude, Rude bag of pre-wed food Dude.” We all laugh at the quick wittedness of Peter Pan (Robin Williams) back then in the movie but yet sometimes words are spoken in envy, anger and rudeness that we later regret. When we love with “agape” love, we are polite and forgiving in the face of rudeness. How can we do this? Come find out this Sunday at 10am! Please don’t forget our “Cookout” after church this Sunday and also please come for our Pizza and Prayer tomorrow night at 6pm. 1Thes. 5:17 “Pray without ceasing.”

Hi Church,

Last week we started a new sermon series called “Pulling the Pin” and exploding the bad behaviors that undermine love. Two of those behaviors that undermine love are envy and pride. 1Cor. 13:4b “...love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up;” Proverbs 14:30 “A sound heart is life to the body, but envy is rottenness to the bones.” How can envy or pride destroy love? Envy is a resentfulness of someone who has something that we want while pride is an overly high opinion of oneself. When you add both of these together, let’s just say bad things can happen. James 3:16 “For where envy and self-seeking exist, confusion and every evil thing are there.” As believers, how can we limit envy and pride so that love can flourish? Come find out the answer from God’s Word this Sunday at Willow Lake Church at 10am! Please don’t forget to come tonight to the church at 6pm for Pasta and Prayer!

Hi Church,

This Sunday, July 12th at 10am we will start a new sermon series called “Pulling the Pin.” I think that all of us, as believers, have certain behaviors that we would like to “pull the pin” on and explode! These 7 behaviors that undermine love are just the opposite of what real love is all about. 1Cor. 13:4a “Love suffers long and is kind...” Showing love can be so impactful to a world that is looking for purpose and love. 1Cor. 13:8a “Love never fails” John Mac Arthur wrote, “Love outlasts all failures.” My message title for this Sunday is called “Overcoming Impatience and Unkindness.” How can we overcome impatience and unkindness is a world that escalates edginess and cruelty? Come find out this Sunday at 10am. Please don’t forget Tacos and Prayer tonight at the church at 6pm. 1Thess. 5:17 Pray without ceasing.”

Hi Church,

In December 23, 1776. Thomas Paine wrote: “What we obtain too cheap, we esteem too lightly: it is dearness only that gives everything its value. Heaven knows how to put a proper price upon its goods; and it would be strange indeed if so celestial an article as FREEDOM should not be highly rated.” Jesus quotes the prophet Isaiah in Luke 14:18 “The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, Because He has anointed Me To preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty (freedom) to the captives And recovery of sight to the blind, To set at liberty (freedom) those who are oppressed;” Our spiritual freedom was paid for the precious blood of our Savior. Our physical freedom was paid for the patriotic blood of many of our forefathers yet both of these freedoms can erode away. What can we do to keep these freedoms intact? Come find out this Sunday at 10am as I preach a stand-alone message titled “Freedom isn’t Free.” We will not be having a work day this Saturday because it is July 4th. Hi Church,

In 1189 AD Richard I of England, the French and the Germans joined together against the threatening force of Muslim Turks led by their Muslim leader, Saladin. The reason for the battle was so they could have access to the Holy Land and to rescue some Syrian Christians. The Germans drowned and the Frenchman ran away leaving Richard I to face the enemy Saladin alone. The battle was costly but the courage of its winner earned him a name that has stayed for over 800 years – “Richard the Lionhearted.” What causes a man or a woman to stand strong in the midst of adversity? 1 John 5:4b “...And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith.” My message for this coming Sunday, June 28th at Willow Lake Church at 10am is titled “Faith and Victory.” What is the key to a victorious Christian life? Abram models this for us in Genesis 14 so come and find out the answer this Sunday at 10am. Please don’t forget that we will be observing communion right after the service. (After the service we will have a brief information meeting for all members.)
