We're beginning a short series on the Divine Service — the worship offered every Sunday at All Saints.

The old word for it is Gottesdienst: God's service to us, not ours to Him. Long before it is anything we do, the Divine Service is what Isaiah found in the temple — a sinner undone before the thrice-holy God, and then, astonishingly, forgiven, cleansed, and sent (Isaiah 6:1–8). Every Sunday follows that same shape: God speaks, God forgives, God feeds, God sends.

This is why we call it "Divine" Service, not merely "worship." We are not the ones rendering the service. He is.

Join us this Sunday — Divine Service at 9:30am, Catechesis at 11am. allsaintsjonesboro.org

Were you baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church?

Do you still remember the hymns?
The Catechism?
The words of the liturgy?
Maybe you've been away for years.
We'd love to welcome you home.
No pressure.
No awkward questions.
Just Christ delivering His gifts through His Word and Sacraments.

Sometimes people ask what it means for the Lutheran church to be “catholic.” This article from the latest Lutheran Witness explains.

The Christian church across cultures is one, holy, catholic and apostolic, the mystical Body of Christ on earth and in heaven. This church also exists across time and eternity. The Book of Revelation provides a sneak peek of heaven and the life of the world to come. Heaven is described as “a great multitude that no one could number, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb” (Rev. 7:9). One day all believers in Jesus from every nation and language will be assembled together in endless praise before Christ, the Lamb of God. Until then, the one, holy, catholic and apostolic church is called by Christ in the Holy Spirit to make disciples of all nations and to gather all peoples and languages together around Word and Sacrament. The multicultural and multilingual church here on earth offers a foretaste of the heavenly feast to come.
