Notes from today's sermon: if you recognize him from the Biblical description go to war immediately against him. Do not entertain his presence one second!
Who does the Bible say satan is?
He is a tempter:
1 Corinthians 7:5 Do not deprive each other except perhaps by mutual consent and for a time, so that you may devote yourselves to prayer. Then come together again so that Satan will not tempt you because of your lack of self-control.
He is a deceiver/liar/1/2 truther:
2 Corinthians 11:3 But I am afraid that just as Eve was deceived by the serpentâs cunning, your minds may somehow be led astray from your sincere and pure devotion to Christ. (If you compromise youâve lost) John 8:44 You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your fatherâs desires. He was a murderer (destroyer, killer) from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies. Matthew 16:23 Jesus turned and said to Peter, âGet behind me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to me; you do not have in mind the concerns of God, but merely human concerns.â Genesis 3:1-5 1 Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the LORD God had made. He said to the woman, âDid God really say, âYou must not eat from any tree in the gardenâ?â 2 The woman said to the serpent, âWe may eat fruit from the trees in the garden, 3 but God did say, âYou must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die.â 4 âYou will not certainly die,â the serpent said to the woman. 5 âFor God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.â
He is a destroyer:
John 10:10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.
An accuser/attacker:
Zechariah 3:1 Then he showed me Joshua the high priest standing before the angel of the LORD, and Satan standing at his right side to accuse him. 1 Peter 5:8-9 8 Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. 9 Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings. Rev 12:10 Then I heard a loud voice in heaven say: âNow have come the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God, and the authority of his Messiah. For the accuser of our brothers and sisters, who accuses them before our God day and night, has been hurled down.
He is a defeated foe:
1 John 3:8 The one who does what is sinful is of the devil, because the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devilâs work. James 4:7 Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Romans 16:20 The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet. The grace of our Lord Jesus be with you. Revelation 20:1-2 1 And I saw an angel coming down out of heaven, having the key to the Abyss and holding in his hand a great chain. 2 He seized the dragon, that ancient serpent, who is the devil, or Satan, and bound him for a thousand years. Ephesians 6:11-16 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devilâs schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Rev 12:10-11 10 Then I heard a loud voice in heaven say: âNow have come the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God, and the authority of his Messiah. For the accuser of our brothers and sisters, who accuses them before our God day and night, has been hurled down. 11 They triumphed over him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony; they did not love their lives so much as to shrink from death. Mt 28:18 Then Jesus came to them and said, âAll authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.
