The Live Nativity In Bluffdale

The Live Nativity In Bluffdale The Live Nativity in Bluffdale (Formerly The Riverview Stake Live Nativity in Draper) Free to the co This scene takes your breath away.

The Live Nativity in Bluffdale (Formerly The Riverview Stake Live Nativity in Draper) is free to the community. This event will be held on December 1-4, 2014 from 6-9 p.m. Here are some interesting Nativity Facts:
The Live Nativity is a 17 year tradition
*Cast of over 150 characters each night
*200 detailed period costumes were hand dyed, hand sewn and are used in the production each night.
*Dixi

e the Donkey has been with the Nativity for 6 years.
*The Camel has been in the Nativity for about 5 years as well.
*Live animals used in the presentation Camel, Donkey, Sheep, Goats, Chickens and even an occasional mouse.
*Over 1000 recreated Bethlehem props are used as part of the sets.
*The Live Nativity takes about 15 minutes to walk through. There is only one speaking part in the production “The Inn Keeper” He delivers 7 words… What do you think those 7 words are?
*Three years ago we added a Tax Collector set, and a Basket Weaver.
*Last year, a Wool Weaver set has been added complete with an authentic looking period loom
*This year we have added two new sets, a Wool dyer and Field Shepherds.
*A full flat bed trailer of live Palm Fronds are transported from St. George to the Nativity each year to create our palm trees and to thatch some of our buildings
*The Nativity once required 3 full months of construction. This year it was accomplished in half the time.
*Hundreds of youth were involved in painting the backgrounds of the set originally.
*The hundreds of square feet of sets, props and technical equipment are store off season in a single semi trailer.
*The sets are constructed of 100’s of feet of steel tubing and hundreds of sheets of exterior masonite that have been hand painted and transformed into Disney quality movie q sets.
*The first music sound tract and sound effects for the Nativity were recorded at KSL sound studios.
*The first Nativity was created in the old Anderson Barn and was heated by a wood stove.
*The Nativity today is heated with a forced air furnace.
*The concept of the Nativity was created by a newly called Bishop wanting to give the members of his ward and his neighbors an opportunity to all come together in a common purpose; Celebrating the Birth of the Savior in a special Way. This became a tradition in their neighborhood and quickly spread into the community when the word got out that this was really something special to experience. When the crowds grew too large for the barn, plans were made to create the all new Nativity as it is now presented. The number of sets doubled out onto the grounds, the newly constructed pavilion was transformed into the winding Streets of Bethlehem, housing costumed characters portraying the travelers crowded in to this little village to pay their taxes. And hidden in a quiet spot from the hustle and bustle of the town, a tiny manger was created to shelter Mary and Joseph and the tiny sleeping baby Jesus. it is tender and sweet and allows the viewer to be taken out of their crazy world for a moment and personally celebrate the humble birth of the Savior of the World.
*The Live Nativity although sponsored by the local LDS stake has enjoyed a warm relationship of help and support from other faiths and community groups in the area.
*In year three of the Nativity, the roles of the Three Kings were filled with a Muslim, A Catholic, and a Polygamist.
*Many neighbors not of the LDS Faith become part of the cast and crew each year.
*Over the Years the role of Baby Jesus has been portrayed by an African American, a beautiful Oriental newborn, a baby with Down syndrome, and here’ a secret, we have also used a lot of girl babies to play the role of baby Jesus. Don’t tell anyone!
* All of our live babies were born no later than September of this year, some of them have been under a month old.
*The Nativity has never excepted any form of admission cost or donation to visit this Christmas event. We want all to come and enjoy this Christmas experience together with out any cost obligation.
*Youth of the area gather hundreds of bundles of cat tails, river reeds, willows and Indian to***co and corn stocks, to be used in the sets, as a service project.
*1000’s of hours have been given by our friends and neighbors to present the Nativity each year.
*We have tracked visitors who have driven from as far as St. George, Idaho, Nevada, California, and Wyoming just to visit the Nativity each year as part of their family Christmas tradition.
*The Nativity has run consistently for 14 years straight with the exception of 2 years ago, when the sponsor of the event decided to not add to the hours of service the members of the stake were giving for the Draper Utah Temple open house.
*We estimate that over the 14 years of presenting the Live Nativity, over 235,000 guests have visited us. We have never advertised the Nativity because we believe like the Movie says,.. “If we build something that is wholesome, worthwhile, has a commonality for a broad spectrum of faiths and nationalities, is family friendly, and leaves you a little better person for having been there,… “they will come”. Helpful hints for Families visiting the Nativity:
Come early! People start lining up at 5:00 each night. The lines get somewhat long at times, but we provide things to see on your journey to Bethlehem. What you see inside is worth the wait!
*Dress in Warm clothes, some of the presentation is outdoors. We never know what the weather is going to be, so dress appropriately.
*We ask guests and especially youth groups and large groups to be reverent when you enter into Bethlehem past the Roman Guard so that all will be able to feel the spirit of the presentation.
*Our attendants will direct you to your parking space, please drive slowly, and be courteous to other guests. There is usually parking in the stake parking lot. Please don’t park on 7th west. If you live close to the Nativity site, please walk with your family.
*We have accommodations for older folks especially in wheel chairs and walkers, and people with special needs. Just ask one of the greeters or attendance to issue you a Special Pass So that one of our greeters might help you with your needs.
*There is a first aid station inside the east door of the Stake center. Rest rooms are limited.
*We ask that if you are planning a get together after or before the Nativity as part of your group celebration, that you do not hold it in our parking lot, because our parking is always limited during the Nativity performances.
* If you are interested in volunteering for a cast role or in the crew of the 2011 Nativity, please contact The Draper Utah Riverview Stake for more information by October 2011.
* PLEASE NO FLASH PHOTOGRAPHY inside of the Bethlehem sets as it disrupts the night time effect of the scenes, and it is hard on the eyes of our cast members, who’s eyes are adjusted to the dim candlelight atmosphere. Thank you!
*COME AND ENJOY THE TRUE SPIRIT OF CHRISTMAS, BRING YOU FRIENDS AND FAMILY.

Hello everyone,
Two years have passed since we presented the Live Nativity in Bluffdale. During this time I have been working tirelessly to seek inspiration for, plan, design and organize a totally new and expanded, incredible “Christ centered” venue for you and your entire family to visit, enjoy ,and be a part of.
Here is a brief preview of the conceptual drawings, set designs, Nazareth village layout plan, and the 20 acre site plan including the village and many of our planned learning venue locations.
Over the next few months I will share with you more of what we have planned. IN the mean time I am looking for individuals who would be interested in helping to support, sponsor, and help bring to pass this very special attraction, celebrating the Savior of the World!
Please, take a peek and tell me what you think about this so far. I will have much more to share with you very soon.
Have a joyous and meaningful Christmas!

A letter from the Director:

Dear friends of "The Live Nativity in Draper and last year Bluffdale"

It's Christmas and I have some bad news and some very good news for all of you who have experienced and followed the" Live Nativity" over our past 16 years.

First the Bad news; After 16 wonderful years, unfortunately we will not be presenting Utah's most visited Live Nativity this Christmas season. I am so sorry for disappointing any of you who were planning on visiting us this year. I will personally miss our shared amazing spiritual experiences together, with you our quests, and the thousands of cast and crew members over the years. We have been blessed to celebrate the birth of our Savior each year in such a sweet and tender way.
I am so thankful for the 5000+ cast and crew members including 250 little babies playing the role of Baby Jesus, that have been part of our Nativity production. Literally thousands of hours have been enthusiastically given with love and dedication, by family, friends, and new friends to stage the nativity each year. I love you and thank you all so very much!
For 16 years we have been blessed with the sponsorship both physically and financially of three LDS Stakes from which we have been able to present the Nativity each year. And of course, because of the volunteer support of two different communities and a myriad of local churches, this has become a truly non-denominational endeavor in every way. Based on the letters and emails We have received over the years, thousands of lives have been touched in a special way after visiting or being part of the Nativity.
My own life has been forever blessed because of the opportunity Heavenly Father gave me to be part of this life changing opportunity!

Here is the Good News; With encouragement and inspiration from many different sources, I am working on completing "the rest of the dream" I started many years ago when as a young Mormon Bishop, after much prayer, proposed the idea of creating a "Live Nativity" as a gift for our community, to my young ward trying to figure out how we might celebrate Christmas that year. What started in a barn in Draper Utah grew into a miraculous celebration which continued to grow in content and numbers... but I knew all along that we weren't quite finished with our dream.
For the past year, knowing that the Live Nativity, as we know it, had finally out grown its humble beginnings, in terms of crowds, long waits and lines, parking, freezing temperatures, and many other challenges that huge guest numbers bring, I decided to start working on drawings, plans, and seeking, inspiration and guidance once again, to create and lay the groundwork for a New permanent opportunity to Celebrate in our unique way, our Love of the Savior and His miraculous life. I knew that other stories of the Saviors life could also be presented in this wonderful 3 dimensional way, so I started the sketches and research to be able to bring guests to experience these stories in a one on one, multi senses connection to "know the Savior" and His work on earth. Stories like "Christ's last night" and "The Miracles of Christ" were my first thoughts as additions to the" Live Nativity"

Here is where I’m at right now: I am seeking about 7 to 10 acres of land to build a large structure that will allow us to not only house the future permanent" Live Nativity" and adequate parking, but also create enough indoor heated que line space where we can creatively move the crowds through more expeditiously. (We would probably move to a pre-scheduled ticket reservation system to help with the long lines and go to a Disney Que method to organize the movement of the crowds.) The Nativity sets will be extra amazing; permanent with 3 dimensional sculpted walls (not flat panels like we use now), very authentic, larger scale/ 24 foot building heights,
(now most of our set panels rise only to 12 to 14 feet), the new sets will be highly detailed, "Disney quality" including many new sets that I haven't had room to do in the past. We will incorporate stage quality lighting and enhanced sound tracts and sound effects to accent the the experience of the guests, and of course there will also be more animals and amazing costumed characters to help bring the "reality" of the experience.
This new facility will also house similar productions to the Nativity at Easter time and throughout the year, as mentioned above. There will be a professional staging area where we can present amazing uplifting concerts by local artists, and an area that will be used for special multimedia presentations about the" life and times of Jesus Christ" and an array of family friendly venues and inspiring events. I am writing these now with the help of bible scholars from a local college and also experts from Christian universities in the Holy Land.
Soon I will share some of my current drawings and plans for you to study, so I can share some of my inspiration and excitement with you as things move along.
For you information, I have been advised to structure this" new adventure" as a" not for profit corporation" This will enable us to except donations of all kinds including labor, construction and construction materials, architectural and engineering needs, marketing professional, craftsmen and specialists, financial sponsorship and even the property as a donation or in the form of an inexpensive lease arrangement…. to name just a few.
We will also be able to pay some of our permanent employees a wage and bring in local talents to help us with our concerts and new presentations This would also allow us to maintain the facility and keep our sets, props and costumes, parking lot and facility in perfect condition, and also provide a means to pay our utilities and any other monthly costs It would also provide money for the upkeep and management of our animals We hope to be self-sustaining over time and also plan to have the capability of adding new and inspirational venues to the property for which we would seek additional sponsorship. This will also make it possible to be able to present this sacred programming to families of those of God’s children who need to see and experience this, but might not be able to afford to visit us. It would help with securing sponsorship to keep our admission charge down to a bare minimum ( if we were fully funded, we could still continue to not charge and entrance fee for the Nativity as we have been able to do in the past.) If you or members of your family or any of your associates might be interested in being part of this endeavor, please let us know.

I believe there has never been, at least in my lifetime, a time when mankind needed to grow closer to Christ in our lives, to learn about Him, to become like Him, to follow Him, in every way and to prepare ourselves for His great coming! That truly is the "Good News" we are seeking after.

Please feel free to contact me personally through this face book page for your comments, any questions, or suggestions, and let us know if you or any one you know might be able to help us "in any way" as we work to bring this pre tested “Dream into Reality”. Thank you for all of your support. May the Lord Bless you and your families this Christmas season and always!

"And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense, and myrrh."
Matthew 2:11

To everyone who participated in and/or visited this year's Live Nativity, we cannot thank you enough. We appreciate your patience and reverence through the lines you endured and we hope it was worth it for you.

It has been a wonderful experience as we have all taken time to reflect on the birth and life of our Savior and King, Jesus Christ. We hope that the Holy Spirit has testified to you, as we do now, of the importance of the Lord's role in our lives. Through Him, and only him, may we return to live with our Eternal Father in Heaven.

We wish you a wonderful, Christ centered, holiday season.
