Matthew 13:31-33, 44-52 “The Kingdom of Heaven Is Like…”. Eternal life in heaven is worth more than anything this world can offer, so we must ask ourselves: do our lives reflect that truth? Sometimes we need to stop, look around, and answer honestly. Jesus asks the age-old question in today’s gospel: “Have you understood all this?” Like the disciples, we may say, “Yes,” and truly believe we do. But what do our lives say? What do our actions reveal? When is enough enough? Think of the things we collect, the things we chase, and the value we place on them. Do we recognize how much of what we spend our time, money, and energy gathering is temporary at best?

Matthew 11:16-19, 25-30. Christ’s invitation: “Come to me, all you that are weary, and I will give you rest.” Weariness reminds us we cannot do everything ourselves, and gathered around word, water, and meal, we find rest for our souls. Today’s gospel calls us to look to the Lord, receive help with humility, and carry one another’s burdens in unity. As we continue life’s journey, may we lift our eyes to the Lord, who does for us what we cannot do alone. He fills us with strength, peace, joy, wisdom, and discernment.

Bishop Greg Busboom, Bishop of the Central/Southern Synod of the ELCA, presided over our Sunday worship with Mary Lou on Sunday, June 21st in Bluff Springs. At the end of the service, Bishop Bushboom took a selfie.

Eli Rajaguru, a member of St. John’s, was Confirmed at Faith Lutheran Church in
Jacksonville on Sunday, May 24th, 2026. St. John’s will honor this achievement this Sunday, June 21st, during our morning Worship Service at 10:30am. A Reception will be held after services.
