Matthew 9:9-13, 18-26 “Inheritors of God’s grace and God’s mercy.” Throughout the Sundays of the church year, we have many gospel lessons wherein Jesus taught us the importance of showing empathy for others, of not being judgmental of circumstances we might not understand. If we were to examine the lives of people that Jesus encountered and whom he helped in teaching us those many lessons, we will discover that their wants, needs, and feelings are very similar to what we encounter today. The very people we often overlook … or who we don’t see, are the very ones Christ puts smack dab in front of us to share His love, mercy and grace.

John 3:1-17. New life and light are born of the darkness. Born anew. There is more hidden in the darkness than we can physically see. It is a time of letting the wind of God blow where it will… ”come Holy Spirit” we pray…and it does come…and it can and will change our lives when we surrender to God as we open ourselves to God’s plan for our lives: a time for letting ourselves be born anew. That is what Jesus tells Nicodemus. He is telling us too in being born anew, we acknowledge and live life knowing that we will not have all the answers we seek in this lifetime. What we do have are the promises of God. God acts in the darkness of our lives when we step into the mystery of the unknown. God tells us as He did those before us “I will show you,” “I will bless you.”
