Palm Sunday at St. Mary’s

Today, St. Mary’s Orthodox Church commemorates the triumphant entry of Jesus into Jerusalem. This momentous occasion marks the beginning of Holy Week, a period observed with reverence and reflection within the Orthodox tradition.

Palm Sunday signifies the anticipation of our King’s arrival, echoing the joy felt by those who witnessed Christ’s entry into Jerusalem. At the same time, it serves as a reminder of the profound joy and tragedy in Christ’s life, as this event leads to His crucifixion and resurrection.

Prayers and Blessings

St. Mary’s extends a warm and heartfelt congratulations to Dismas (Byron Kulchar) reception into the Orthodox Church. This marks a significant milestone in his spiritual journey, and the parish community is delighted to support him as he embraces the Orthodox faith.

May God grant him many years-Mnohaya Lita!

Palm Sunday

This upcoming Sunday, we celebrate our Lord's triumphant entry into Jerusalem, Palm Sunday. People waved their palms and branches in celebration of Christ's victory over death. We also join in a procession this Sunday to join the chorus of celebration! However, it nevertheless points to the reality of His Passion as well in the coming Holy Week, an austere time where we witness to what our Lord endured for each of us.

As the final stretch before the glorious day of Pascha, or Easter, we have many services available for faithful, young and old, brand new or seekers and those experienced in what we do, to attend. We'll celebrate with a service called Bridegroom Matins after our normal Sunday service in the afternoon, celebrating this service again on Monday and Tuesday mornings at 9:00 AM. This Wednesday, April 8th, at 6:00 PM we'll have a service called Holy Unction for our healing. On Thursday, April 9th, at 9:00 AM there's a liturgy for Holy Thursday, and at 6:00 PM that evening we have a service, the 12 Passion Gospels, to listen to readings pertaining to this event. Friday, April 10th, we have the Royal Hours at 9:00 AM, followed later in the evening at 6:00 PM with a burial service to our Lord. Saturday, April 11th, there'll be a liturgy at 9:00 AM with the beautiful service of Resurrection Matins later that evening at 7:00 PM, bringing us into that Paschal joy, which we'll further lovingly celebrate on Sunday the 12th at 10:00 AM with our Pascha/Easter liturgy and blessing of Easter baskets!

It's a busy week, but a wonderful one that we invite you to come and experience, and to pray and worship with us. All are welcome to attend, and we'd love to have you by whether you have a church home or not. God bless you, and we hope to see you at St. Mary's!

St. Mary of Egypt

Nearing the end of Great Lent, we come to another great saint of the Church that we celebrate on this upcoming Sunday, St. Mary of Egypt. As an example for us all to hold during this time, we could hardly ask for better. Throughout our fasting and practices of faith, we've hopefully seen ourselves transformed, yet knowing by the grace of God we are being made closer to His image. However, while we especially focus on this for the extent of Great Lent, this amazing saint fasted (and more!) for 47 years! Can you imagine? If she can do that, we all can hopefully focus on such things for a handful of days! What a model for repentance, but also the redeeming power and love of God towards us when we approach Him with faith and humility.

As we start wrapping up this season, please feel free to come and join us, especially as we commemorate this incredible saint of the Church this Sunday! We'd love to have you come by.

Additional services will be held next week as well. On Wednesday, April 1st, at 6:00 PM, we'll celebrate with a Presanctified Liturgy. Friday, April 3rd, at 6:00 PM, we'll have a Moleben to St. Nectarios. Finally, on Saturday, April 4th, at 9:00 AM, we'll have a Lazarus Saturday Liturgy. All are welcome to attend any of our services, ask questions, and more. Thank you, God bless you, and we hope to see you here at St. Mary's!
