WELCOME TO GOOD SHEPHERD EPISCOPAL CHURCH, BLUE GRASS, VIRGINIA! Weekly Ecumenical Study Group at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, Monterey Public Library
Let us tell you a little about ourselves. In the summer of 2013, Good Shepherd Episcopal Church, Blue Grass, held a celebratory anniversary picnic. The grassy grounds and tall bushes surrounding the white colonial church building had been trimmed and
manicured for this very important day. People from not only the church's membership but also the surrounding communities of Blue Grass, Monterey, McDowell, VA, and Franklin, West Virginia, had been invited to share in the congregation's celebration. Various configurations of tables and chairs filled with joyous faces dotted the yard. Cars were parked up and down the narrow road of the hamlet. At the end of the church's grounds, the headwaters of the Potomac River trickled over smooth stones. All of this life was taking place to celebrate 20 years of life as a Christian congregation. Three years later, the church is alive and has grown, from an initial membership of six, to a 2013 membership of 36, to a present day membership of 41. Its growth is significant to a worshiping people in a far northwestern corner of Highland County, where the beauty and power of tall mountains and deep valleys and ever present wildlife are a part of daily living. The congregation's persistent life in Christ exemplifies the persevering power of the Holy Spirit among them. If you are looking for a church to attend and a believing family to join, Good Shepherd Church welcomes you with open arms. Join us as we live out together the love of Christ through worship, gatherings of community and church members, outreach to the world and local communities, growth in understanding of each other and God in a longstanding ecumenical study group that involves residents of Virginia and West Virginia communities. Be part of a powerful and productive relationship between the local communities and Good Shepherd. Help us to know Christ more deeply through your participation with us in loving Him and others.
