This Sunday we be the conclusion to the summer-long sermon series, “The Bible Tells Me So: The New Testament” by explorig the final book of the New Testament, Revelation. As stated in commentary by Catherine and Justo Gonzales, “No book in the New Testament has inspired as many joyful and victorious hymns as has the book of Revelation, and no book in the New Testament has inspired as much destructive and even pathological behavior as has the book of Revelation.” Together we’ll explore what this book of apocalyptic literature meant not only for the original listeners in the very late first century, but also for us today. A key theme of this book is the hope that we Christians have for now and for the future because of what God has done for the world through Jesus Christ. Revelation is a book of Christian hope. We’ll explore that together on Sunday.

A few other things to note for Sunday:
* It is also the first Sunday of the month, so we will share in the Sacrament of the Lord’s Supper together in worship.
* As part of the new building construction a trailer has been delivered that takes up a few of our precious parking spots. Please allow extra time for parking especially if you are attending the 11 am service.

A couple weekends ago a group of Rumple women attend the annual Women’s Connection Retreat at Montreat - Horizon Gazing: Hope in the Here and Now. It was a wonderful weekend of connection and being reminded to lift our eyes, breath, and remember from where our help comes. We left with full hearts and look forward to this wonderful event again next August. If you haven’t attended in the past, contact Linda Mauldin to be notified of next year’s conference details.

We invite you to join us this Sunday, in the Sanctuary or online, as we continue our summer sermon series “The Bible Tells Me So” with readings from from the books of I and II Peter and Hebrews. These were written during a time of intense, Roman Empire-sanctioned persecution of Christians, and the Christian churches needed to hear words of encouragement from their faith leaders. The writers of these letters acknowledged the persecution and suffering, yet also wrote words of encouragement to aid the Christians in persevering in faithfulness to Christ and his way of humility and love. We need to hear the words of these writers today as much as those to whom they were first written.

A few other things to note for Sunday:
- At 4:30 pm in the Sanctuary we will have our First-Ever Hymn Festival led by Joby Bell, Professor of Organ and Sacred Music Curriculum at Appalachian State
- At 5:00 p.m. our children, youth, and parents will gather at the manse for the annual back-to-school cookout at the Manse

Last Tuesday our Rumple Family and the broader Blowing Rock Community gathered to celebrate the groundbrekaing for the new Multi-Purpose Building.for the new Multi-Purpose Building. We want to say a huge thank you to all of the Rumple staff, especially Kaleb, Sonya, and Avery for all of their extra hard work making the groundbreaking possible.  And, thank you to every member of the Rumple family who has contributed time, talent, and resources to get us to this place.

We anticipate Vannoy’s site work subcontractors will begin their work in the next few weeks! While this is a really exciting time it will also require some patience. As you can see in the last photo in prepartion for construction a trailer has been delivered. We will all need to plan a little extra time for parking when coming to the church on Sundays and other days as well.

Introducing Rumple’s 2026 Visiting Scholar, Rev. Dr. Elizabeth Hinson-Hasty, who serves as J. Roy Davis Family Chair of Theology and History at Union Presbyterian Seminary at the Charlotte campus and is a Professor of Theology and Ethics. The most recent book she has published is on Authentic Christian Freedom: Deconstructing the American Gospel of Liberty (Orbis 2025), and she is currently working on a new project entitled Courageous Moral Leadership from Common People.

What motivates her as a teacher and minister is the moments when she witnesses people beginning to see things in a new way, coming alive, and playing a role in transformative change. With over twenty years of experience in higher education, ministry, and social justice advocacy, she is an educator, author, and institutional leader who values collaboration, integrity, pluralism, reciprocity, and mutual respect.

Join us and sing along together at the Rumple Hymn Festival on Sunday, August 30 at 4:30 p.m. in the sanctuary. We will welcome Dr. Joby Bell, Professor of Organ and Sacred Music Curriculum at Appalachian State University, to help lead our service. Joby will lead us from the organ console as we sing familiar hymns and newer hymns, using the full range of voices and sounds of the organ to bring the hymn text to life. Between the hymns, there will be reflections on the text and the spoken word. A reception will be held in the Gathering Space following the service.
