For tonight's Bible study and prayer:

Psalm 4:8 - "I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety."

- What time of day was this psalm likely written by David?
- What is the theme of verse 8?
- What things would David possibly have been "concerned about" here?
- What would be the opposite of what this verse is talking about?
- Why is night a time when people are more prone to fear?
- What kind of safety can we expect? (i.e., safe from what?)
- What is the significance of the word "only?"
- What is David's part in v. 8? What is God's part?
- How does Jesus demonstrate the truth of this verse while on earth?
- From verse 5, what is the underlying component in this chapter, and especially verse 8?
- What actions can we take (particularly from this psalm) to put our trust in the Lord?

For tonight's Bible study and prayer: Esther 8:5a - "If it please the king, and if I have found favour in his sight, and...

For tonight's Bible study and prayer:

Esther 8:5a - "If it please the king, and if I have found favour in his sight, and the thing seem right before the king, and I be pleasing in his eyes..."

- What would it be like to stand before a king and make a formal request?
- What request did Esther make in this verse and passage?
- What would happen if the king did not grant her request?
- Therefore, how serious of a position was Esther in?
- How can we relate to Esther as we approach God in prayer?
- How was Esther an 'interceder,' and how are we 'interceders?'
- There are four conditions at the beginning of verse 5, signaled by the words "if" and "and." What are they?
- These conditions being present gave confidence that the king would consider and command the request to be done…
- Which conditions pertain to the request itself? Which pertain to the requester?
- Based on these conditions, what should the request be like?
- Based on these conditions, what should the requester be like?
- As we pray to the King of kings, show should we and our requests be?

Theme verse for tonight:
Psalm 100:4 "Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name."

Main passage for tonight: Nehemiah 12:8, 24, 27, 31, 38, 40, 43, 46.

A theme in this chapter in Nehemiah is thanksgiving.

- Why would it have been HARD for the Jews in Jerusalem to give thanks at this time?
- Why might it have been EASY for the Jews in Jerusalem at this time to give thanks?
- What specifically would they have been thankful for?
- Were all the Jews thankful during this entire "rebuilding" period?
- Was giving thanks something that needed to be organized by Nehemiah? Or did it transpire naturally for the Jews?
- Does thanksgiving naturally occur in our lives? Why, or Why not?
- What spiritual activities in this passage accompanied their thanksgiving? (Hint: There's at least two...both starting with the letter "p")
- Why may thanksgiving be hard for a Christian?
- How did Jesus display a spirit of thanksgiving while on earth?
- What can you give thanks for today?

For tonight's Bible study and prayer:

Nehemiah 1:11a - "O Lord, I beseech thee, let now thine ear be attentive to the prayer of thy servant, and to the prayer of thy servants, who desire to fear thy name..."

- What is Nehemiah known for?
- What prompted Nehemiah's prayer of v. 4-11?
- Did Hanani in v. 2 appear to be burdened for this as much as Nehemiah was? How can you tell?
- Based on Nehemiah's prayer, what was the root cause of Israel's affliction?
- What was Nehemiah particularly burdened about?
- Was the Lord burdened about the situation in Jerusalem?
- What was the Lord particularly burdened about?
- What integral part did prayer have in this? (Chapter 1...)
- What important component "fueled" his prayers? (See 2nd question again.)
- How important is it to our prayers that we would reflect/align with God's burdens?
- What was Nehemiah's occupation? (v. 11end.) Is this what he is primarily known for today? How should this reality affect our priorities?

Tonight's Bible study and prayer:

Isaiah 6:1 - "In the year that king Uzziah died I saw also the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up, and his train filled the temple."

- According to Isaiah 1:1, which kings of Israel did Isaiah minister under?
- Based on 2 Chronicles 26, what do we know about Uzziah as king?
Years of reigning? - v. 3
Overall as king? - v. 4
Military strength? - v. 6-15
End of reign? - v. 16-21
- How would the above four items of Uzziah likely have affected Isaiah? Years, overall, military, ending.
- What is significant about the name of the Lord in v. 1? (As opposed to name of LORD in v. 3…)
- What is the Lord's posture…how is this significant?
- What is the Lord seated upon…what is the significance of this?
- What else in v. 1 contributes to the picture of the Lord?
- How would this total picture have helped Isaiah at that time?
- How can Christians today relate to Isaiah? How are they similar?
- How are Christians today different from Isaiah?
- Are Christians in a monarchy?
- How is the solution for Isaiah the same solution for us?
- How should the truths of this verse affect our prayers?

For tonight's Bible study & prayer:

Ephesians 1:17 - "That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him."

- What do we learn about God in this verse? Two primary phrases…
- What is meant by "the God of our Lord Jesus Christ?"
- What is communicated by "the Father of glory?"… [What is He like? And, in what way does He do things?]
- How capable is God, based on this description?
- What was Paul praying that God would give to the Ephesians?
- Is "spirit" a reference to the Holy Spirit? Why, or why not?
- What is meant by "spirit?" (Literally, and figuratively)
- What is wisdom?
- How did Jesus show wisdom while He was on earth?
- How did the Ephesians likely need wisdom?
- Is wisdom guaranteed with salvation?
- What is revelation?
- How does Jesus' life on earth demonstrate He knew all things (had spirit of revelation)?
- What kinds of things might need to be revealed to Christians today?
- Where are we going to find this "spirit of wisdom/revelation?" - v. 17end...
- At the time this book was written, did Paul know God better or worse than the Ephesians knew God?

Is your personal relationship with the Lord at such a level that would 1) Attract the average Christian closer to God? 2) Distract/Deter the average Christian further from God?
Are you "calling up," or "putting down?"

How can we pray for the "spiritual growth" of Christians with this verse in mind?

For tonight's Bible study & prayer:

I Peter 5:7 - "Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you."

- Who was Peter writing to, and what were they dealing with? - 1:1, 5:9-10
- What is a 'care?'
- What cares would the original audience of this letter have had? - Put yourself in their shoes…
- What cares do Christians have today in America?
- Do most people readily open up about their cares?
- Who is a believer to 'open up' to in v. 7?
- Is 'casting' a once-and-done thing?
- Does 'casting' always include prayer? Why, or why not?
- What do we see about God (in this verse and its surrounding context) that would encourage us to cast our cares upon Him?

PLUS: We will discuss a simple approach to apply this verse to every day of the week, tying one of God's attributes with each type of day (longest day, hardest day, etc.), cementing the meaning of this verse in our minds daily!

For tonight's Bible study & prayer:

Psalm 22:24 - "For he hath not despised nor abhorred the affliction of the afflicted; neither hath he hid his face from him; but when he cried unto him, he heard."

- What does it mean to "despise" something?
- What does "abhorred" mean? How is it different from despise?
- What is meant by "affliction?"
- If something is "hid," is it really there or not?
- What is significant about a person "facing" someone?
- Who is "he" at the beginning of the verse?
- Who are the afflicted?...originally in psalm 22? prophetically?
- When does God hear the afflicted?
- Based on v. 2, 7-8 of this chapter, did the afflicted "feel" like God despised/abhorred his affliction?
- What is the reality of God with man's affliction?
- Was David exempt from afflictions because he was God's?
- Describe the afflictions Jesus had on the cross…both from what this chapter details, and from what you know from His crucifixion.
- How are these afflictions similar to afflictions that people face today? How are they different?
- What is the solution to the affliction in v. 24?
- What afflictions are you facing this week?
- What are we tempted to think in times of affliction?
- What things are true when we're afflicted?
- How ought we to respond?

04/15/2026

For tonight's Bible study & prayer:

2 Chronicles 16:9a - "For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to shew himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him."

- Who is the king of Judah in this chapter?
- What situation did he face in v. 1?
- How did Asa deal with this problem?
- Did Asa's plan work?
- According to prophet it in v. 7, what was Asa truly doing when he hired Syria?
- What does it mean to "rely" on something?
- Was this the first time Asam needed to rely on God?
- Why is it important to consider that this was not the first time?
- What do we learn about God from the first phrase of v. 9?
- According to this verse, do we find God…or does God find us?
- What is God looking to do with any person?
- When is God's strength seen the best?
- What condition must exist for God to show Himself strong?
- What does it mean to have a perfect heart?
- What other things did Asa "rely" on in 16:2, 12?
- How will the truth of this verse affect our prayers?
- Thinking about the "missions spotlight" this week, how can we apply this verse to reaching our area with the gospel?

04/08/2026

For tonight's Bible study and prayer:

2 Chronicles 7:14 - "If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land."

- What's the context of this verse?
- Who are "my people" of v. 14? Originally and Applicably…
- Is it acceptable to apply "my people" to USA? Why/Why not?
- Is this more of a prayer for saved people to get right with God, or unsaved people to be saved?
- Therefore, is the problem with our country primarily with the unsaved, or the saved?
- What is the first thing WE must do?
- Based on what's happening in v. 13, how would humility be required and seen?
- What would no humility, or pride, look like in these situations?
- After humility, what is next?
- If humility is correctly identifying the problem, then what is prayer like?
- How does "seek my face" play into this?
- Summarize "turn from their wicked ways" in one word.
- What 3 promises does God give?
- What does verse 14 "hinge on?"
