Dorothy & Toto carving update!

The tree carving has been removed for preparations to begin for the new bronze sculpture. The carving has been moved to the front of the cemetery just behind the shop building (See Below). It will remain here until further notice.

Did you know that L. Frank Baum’s niece, Dorothy, namesake for the main character in his book, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, is buried at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery?

In June 2018 a tree stump was carved to look like Dorothy and Toto. Since then, the maintenance has become more, and the carving is splitting down the center. It has been decided between staff and cemetery trustees that the carving be removed.

Due to Dorothy’s popularity the cemetery board of trustees voted to replace the carving with a bronze sculpture. This project is expected to be completed by spring of 2027.

The entire month of October we will be offering $100 OFF any space in the cemetery (excludes Pet and Dorothy Gage Memorial Garden). Stop in the cemetery office for more information. The office is located at 302 E. Miller Street.

Due to the storms today we will be closing all entrances to the cemetery. We hope to have the roads cleaned up enough to open the main gate back up tomorrow near the end of the day (4pm). Thank you for your understanding.

Dorothy Louise Gage was born June 11, 1898 to Sophie Jewell and Thomas C. Gage. She died in November 11, 1898 at 5 months of age. She was interred on November 16, 1898. Dorothy Louise Gage was the niece of L. Frank Baum. While he was writing The Wonderful Wizard of Oz the infant died. Maud, L Frank....

PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT!

Today & Tomorrow we are having road work and tree work done throughout the cemetery. We ask that if you are trying to enter or exit and can not please try our other gates on Gridley or Lincoln Street. Also, please remember we have a 10 MPH speed limit. Thank you and sorry for any inconveniences.

On February 3, 2026 at 1PM at our Mausoleum building, the American Legion will be holding an event to honor the Four Chaplains lost in WWII.

The Four Chaplains were four U.S. Army chaplains—Methodist George Fox, Jewish Rabbi Alexander Goode, Catholic John Washington, and Dutch Reformed Clark Poling—who sacrificed their lives on the troopship USAT Dorchester when it was torpedoed in WWII (Feb. 3, 1943), giving their life jackets to others and praying together as the ship sank, becoming symbols of interfaith unity and selfless courage. They were posthumously awarded the Special Medal for Heroism for their heroic actions, as strict criteria prevented the Medal of Honor
