Due to the storms today we will be closing all entrances to the cemetery. We hope to have the roads cleaned up enough to open the main gate back up tomorrow near the end of the day (4pm). Thank you for your understanding.

Did you know that L. Frank Baum’s niece, Dorothy, namesake for the main character in his book, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, is buried at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery?

In June 2018 a tree stump was carved to look like Dorothy and Toto. Since then, the maintenance has become more, and the carving is splitting down the center. It has been decided between staff and cemetery trustees that the carving be removed.

Due to Dorothy’s popularity the cemetery board of trustees voted to replace the carving with a bronze sculpture. This project is expected to be completed by spring of 2027.

If you have not had the chance to see the wood carving, please do so soon! The link below will direct you to our website where you can find GPS coordinates for the carving.

Dorothy Louise Gage was born June 11, 1898 to Sophie Jewell and Thomas C. Gage. She died in November 11, 1898 at 5 months of age. She was interred on November 16, 1898. PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT!

Today & Tomorrow we are having road work and tree work done throughout the cemetery. We ask that if you are trying to enter or exit and can not please try our other gates on Gridley or Lincoln Street. Also, please remember we have a 10 MPH speed limit. Thank you and sorry for any inconveniences.
