🎒🏫Back-to-School Backpack Blessing

The start of a new school year is an exciting time! We invite all children and youth, along with their families, to bring their school backpacks to worship on Sunday, September 6, at 9:30 a.m. for a special Backpack Blessing.

Together we will ask God's guidance, protection, and wisdom for students of all ages as they begin a new year of learning and growth. Children of all ages are welcome!

As part of the blessing, each child will receive a small keepsake to help remind them throughout the school year that they are surrounded by God's love and the prayers of their church family.

"The Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore." Psalm 121:8.

Pastor Hans Peterson was extended a unanimous call to join Transfiguration Lutheran as our new Pastor for Worship Arts & Emerging Generations on Sunday, August 23.

Our lead pastor, Pastor Elise Pokel, describes Pastor Hans as kind-hearted, humble, creative, and fun. She is looking forward to partnering with Pastor Hans in service to the Gospel and God’s kingdom purposes through their shared love of music and supporting families.

One of Pr. Hans’ greatest passions is engaging children in worship through the joy of music. Pastor Hans has served as a music teacher and a musician in Dakota Road Music, a performance and publishing company specializing in faith-filled music. He has led music for synod assemblies, youth gatherings, and prisons.

He is excited to focus in on music ministry and ministries for children, youth, and family at Transfiguration. His favorite Bible verse is 1 Corinthians 12:7, “Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good.” Pastor Hans is excited to discover all the gifts God has instilled in each person at Transfiguration and the wider community of Bloomington.

Pastor Hans’ wife, Heidi Morlock, will also be joining our congregation. Heidi is a market gardener and farmer. She has recently gone back to school to become a Special Education teacher, working in Chaska, MN. She's basically Wonder Woman!

Pastor Hans and Heidi love living on their 70-acre farm in Jordan, MN and love to garden and make fabulous food together. Pastor Hans enjoys pickle ball, hiking, and biking.

We look forward to Pastor Hans’ first day of service in ministry among us at Transfiguration Lutheran on Wednesday, September 23 as we kickoff our Wednesday fall programming of TLC-ELC Community Dinners (5:00-6:30 PM every Wednesday), youth ministry, and the TLC Chancel Choir.

Pastor Hans will be installed by Pastor Jen Collins from the Minneapolis Area Synod office on Sunday, October 11.
