Bulgaria 2026: Day 8 +1

Well…we got to Sofia airport and said goodbye to our friends, Dani & Zdravko, but found out our flight was delayed. And by the time we got to Frankfurt and through passport control, we had missed our flight (along with everyone else on our plane)

So the airport rebooked our flight home for tomorrow morning. And in the meantime, they put us up in a hotel and fed us dinner tonight. We explored a German grocery store before calling it a night and getting ready to fly home tomorrow

One of the top rules for mission trips is “flexibility.” You never know what’s going to happen to throw your plan out the window. We saw that this past week, but also how God moves in those spaces. We’re confident that he is taking care of us through this as well and can provide more ministry opportunities as we journey home

Please pray that all of us—and our luggage—arrive in Indy tomorrow and make great time doing it

Bulgaria 2026: Day 8 - The Last Day

Today we went back to the second school we have partnered with and completely renovated the room. We then headed to Pastor Yordan’s church in the Roma community where we prepared to do our 3rd community outreach. It rained on us, but we didn’t care, and the kids thought that was awesome. And the longer we partied and played in the rain with them, the more we saw parents and adults coming from all over to see what we were doing, amazed that we wouldn’t just shut down the event.

Natasha spoke a great word as only a kid’s pastor can. After handing out treats to each kid, we said our final goodbyes—to the kids and to Pastor Yordan and his wife. In his final words, he talked about how shocked everyone was at how much we accomplished and how we did it with such care and joy. He also talked about how powerful the service was and the ministry time with an abundance of accurate words of knowledge. It left a mark on them. But little do they know how it also left a mark on us.

We headed to the hotel for our final dinner, our final debrief, and our team members began their video interviews where they share everything in their heart and mind about the trip for all of their supporters and our church.

At our final debrief, Dani & Zdravko spoke about how impactful we were as a team and how Bulgaria has never had a team as joyful and giving and hardworking as we were. So many comments and testimonies have come to them about the love of God in us pouring out onto others. There is so much to tell that must wait for another time

Pray for us as we leave at 7:00 AM for the airport and the beginning of a long journey home!

Bulgaria 2026: Day 7

It was Sunday and we attended Pastor Jordan’s (Yordan) church in the Roma community where we’ve been serving

Dad preached, was able to help administer communion, and then was able to be part of baptizing several of the most genuine and grateful followers of Jesus in that church. And the surprise of all surprises on this trip was that Jolene made her choice to get baptized here in Bulgaria, with several of the Roma people. She came on this trip 2 days after spending a full week at Indiana youth camp where God did a deep work in her life! Pastor Jordan and the church were so loving and generous towards Jolene and all of us.

Before service, dad asked for each team member to pray and ask God to reveal a specific need that someone in the church may need God to heal/answer/etc. After reading the list at the end of the service and praying for everyone who responded, Pastor Jordan told us that he knows his people very well and can testify that every single item on our list was true down to the detail! Almost the entire room raised their hands to respond. Here is the list of issues that God revealed and healed:

* Right Kidney — 50% & Going Down
* Right Toe is Infected & Causing Much Pain
* Loneliness due to the death of a loved one, and God says to you: I will not leave you, I will provide for you, You are not alone
* Lost all strength in left arm
* Hopelessness
* Self Worth
* God is purifying you & refreshing your life
* Struggling w/ confusion, anxiety & uncertainty , and God wants to give you peace & clarity
* Neck Pain
* Feeling Rejected & Worthless
* For all the women: you are more than a mom, more than a wife, more than grandma - you are His child. He loves you for you. You are good and precious in His sight

Since it was Sunday and we couldn’t do any work after church, we went and explored some of the ancient places in Bulgaria: Sozopol & Nessabar. We shopped for our families and enjoyed some good food before heading back to the hotel to prepare for our last day of hard work before heading back home to the States

Bulgaria 2026: Day 6

Our team went back to the second school we partnered with today to work on their classrooms. This team worked so hard and crushed 2 room renovations in 1 day! One of the school workers stationed at the door saw how we worked with joy and meticulous attention to the details and thought we were locals. But when she found out we were from America, she couldn’t believe that anyone would travel such a far distance to serve them in this way. She said “that’s impossible.” And our local pastor-partner answered her, “What you think is impossible is in fact possible.” 🙌🏼

As soon as we finished the work at the school, we drove straight to the church we’ve been partnering with to help serve at a second children and family street service in the slums of the local Roma community. We had such a fun time bringing them fun through games and dance parties, and that fun slowly turned into joy. And we took that joy and turned it into hope when our leaders asked my dad to preach on the spot! By the end of the night, the kids had experienced so much of God’s love through us that you had to pry them off of us!

We went back to the hotel for a late dinner and shared stories of what God has been doing, and shed some tears as well at the goodness of God at work in front of our eyes!

Bulgaria 2026: Day 5

We finished the renovations at the first school today, while also having a little bit of fun with the students! We then headed to the next town to start the renovation work on the second school we’re serving.

Today was a longer day, because after starting renovations, we headed to Pastor Yordan’s home in one of the Roma communities where they showed us such warm and generous hospitality. We then went downstairs to his church to prepare bags with sweet treats to hand out to kids at an outreach we did in partnership with his church in one of the gypsy slums

This church loves their community so well and Pastor Yordan is a legit pastor. After some worship and encouragement, they asked us to lead the kid events and bring the fun! So thanks to our amazing team on this trip, we were able to keep over 100 kids fully engaged (which we were told is not normal) through several high energy games, “Church Clap” led by me and Jolene, and we even brought some Forrest Frank inspired “Celebration” dance party to the Roma kids. It was by far the most meaningful and fun part of the trip so far.

After Pastor Yordan shared the Gospel, we were able to pray over them and give them their sweet treats. Partnering with both Convoy of Hope AND the local church in Bulgaria has been a powerful combination and the amount of support we’re giving to the local church’s witness is amazing

We’ve been considering what paint, varnish, and fun with these kids is actually accomplishing? What can these simple things do?

What we’re literally seeing before our eyes is joy and hope coming to so many people who live in such awful situations…just by serving them with the heart and love of Jesus, and doing it with all of our strength and as much excellence as we can bring to every brush stroke, every desk moved, every high five, every hug, every prayer.

Bulgaria 2026: Day 4

We went back to finish up our painting of the rooms we’ve been renovating at the school. The team has worked hard in painting, cleaning, and serving in all kinds of ways to help this renovation move forward. The flooring our church purchased was also being installed today in another room

After another long day, we went into town to be part of a Bulgarian mid-week church service at the church of our local leader, Zdravko.

Today’s Bulgarian service brought to you by Google Translate 😂 We caught most of it. It was amazing to worship with brothers and sisters in Christ that we had no way of communicating with or anything really in common with…EXCEPT our shared love and devotion to Jesus! We are all part of a global Church and it really is beautiful

We walked to dinner and explored downtown Burgas for a few minutes before turning in for the night so we can rest up for another day of serving this school in Fakia and other ministry opportunities

Day 1-3

Hey, everyone! We traveled 31 hours from our church parking lot to our hotel in Burgas, Bulgaria and met our incredible Convoy of Hope trip leaders: Dani and Zdravko

Day 3 was our 1st day of serving in the community. We are working on a school in a very poor community, showing love to the 4th-7th grade students by remodeling 2 of their classrooms. Many of these students are from the Roma community and some of the students are living with grandparents while their parents live abroad to support their families

At the end of a long & rewarding day of work, we had dinner at a restaurant on a public port on the Black Sea. I had shark 🦈 from the Black Sea and it was great!

We also got to do a little exploring around the port and learn more about Bulgaria’s history and understand the economic gap between various communities and why the work we’re doing to love and serve these students and families is so important and can have generational impact.

What an honor to be invited into spaces like this to seek justice, love mercy, and walk humbly before God 🙏🏼
