One more week! Bishop Hying invites all in the diocese to celebrate the Solemnity of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus by joining him at a special Mass at 7:00 pm at Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary Church in Sun Prairie. Following this Mass, he will consecrate the Diocese of Madison to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Please consider joining us for this joyous occasion!

Saint Boniface

Feast Day: June 5
Patronage: Brewers, Fulda, Germany, World Youth Day
Saint Boniface was an English Benedictine monk known as the “Apostle of Germany” for evangelizing and reforming the Germanic church. He was a respected scholar, teacher, and priest, (then bishop) that was called to be a missionary. To convert the superstitious German pagans he cut down the giant oak tree dedicated to the god Thor, as a show of power of the true God, Christ. Boniface believed in Christian orthodoxy and fidelity to the Pope. He died, with 53 companions, a martyr.

Sacred Heart Novena, Day 2: Heart of Jesus, Source of Justice and Love

When contemplating the Sacred Heart as the source of justice and love, we connect Christ’s love for us with our love for others. As Pope Francis said in Dilexit Nos, “Our best response to the love of Christ’s heart is to love our brothers and sisters. There is no greater way for us to return love for love” (no. 167). As we meditate on the love Christ has for us, let us pray this Prayer to the Sacred Heart of Jesus for Love and Mercy.

Lord Jesus,
You gave your life for us.
Your Sacred Heart is ablaze with love.
Your hand extends towards me, and towards all,
offering love, mercy, and healing.
Sacred Heart of Jesus may your love transform me.
Burn away my hesitation that I may become your
love and radiate your mercy.
Amen.

Prayer to the Sacred Heart of Jesus:

Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, blazing furnace of God’s mercy and goodness, transform my heart and spirit so that I might give myself more generously in love and service to others. May Your tender Heart always be the place of encounter to experience the unconditional love of God tangibly made manifest in Your every word, action and gesture.

Take possession of me so that I might be an extension of Your presence in our world and channel the rivers of living water that flow from the fountain of Your infinite love and mercy. Grant me the grace needed to boldly proclaim and zealously spread the Gospel through the joyful work of evangelization, as I invite others to enter more deeply into the mystery of Your Most Sacred Heart! Saint Sophia, Mother of Orphans
11th century
Feast day: June 4
Saint Sophia of Thrace, the daughter of pious Christian parents, married a wealthy man when she came of age and became a model wife and mother of 6 children and lived a virtuous life. When she was 34, a plague swept over the land and one by one took the lives of all 6 of her children and her husband. Heartbroken, she continued in her great devotion to God and found her calling in opening her home to caring for others. Her hospitality extended to all and when adults sought refuge in her home she poured them a glass of rare vintage wine from her urn which miraculously never went empty. Over a period of 20 years she adopted more than one hundred children and raised them all in the love of God.

Sacred Heart Novena, Day 1: Heart of Jesus, aflame with love for us

In his prayer intention for June, the month dedicated the Sacred Heart of Jesus, Pope Leo XIV encourages us, “Let us pray together that each one of us might find consolation in a personal relationship with Jesus, and from His Heart, learn to have compassion on the world.” As we begin this Novena to the Sacred Heart, we join the Holy Father in that prayer.

Lord, I come to Your tender Heart today,
to You who have words that set my heart ablaze,
to You who pour out compassion on the little ones and the poor,
on those who suffer, and on all human miseries.
I desire to know You more, to contemplate You in the Gospel,
to be with You and learn from You
and from the charity with which You allowed Yourself
to be touched by all forms of poverty.
You showed us the Father’s love by loving us without measure
with Your divine and human Heart.
Grant all Your children the grace of encountering You.
Change, shape, and transform our plans,
so that we seek only You in every circumstance:
in prayer, in work, in encounters, and in our daily routine.
From this encounter, send us out on mission,
a mission of compassion for the world
in which You are the source from which all consolation flows.
Amen.

Saint Clotilde

Feast Day: June 3
Patronage: brides, adopted children, parents, exiles, widows, skin disease
Saint Clotilde was married to King Clovis who ruled the Franks and was instrumental in the King's conversion. She is credited with bringing Christianity to Europe. Queen Clotilde was known for her charitable and penitential works of mercy. After Clovis’ death she retired to the Abbey of St. Martin of Tours and died of natural causes.
