Letter Honoring the Legacy of Rev. Jesse Louis Jackson, Sr.

On behalf of Bishop Charles W. Harris Jr. and the leadership of Covenant Kingdom Ministries International, we extend our deepest respect, gratitude, and admiration to Reverend Jesse Louis Jackson, Sr. for his extraordinary legacy of service to this nation, to the global community, and to the ongoing struggle for civil rights, justice, and human dignity.

For more than six decades, Rev. Jackson has stood as a moral voice in the wilderness, calling this nation to live up to its highest ideals. His work from the front lines of the Civil Rights Movement to the founding of the Rainbow PUSH Coalition, has embodied the biblical charge found in Micah 6:8:
“What does the Lord require of you but to do justice, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.”

Rev. Jackson has done exactly that. He has marched, advocated, negotiated, and uplifted. He has spoken truth to power while empowering the powerless. He has carried the torch passed down from Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., ensuring that the fight for equality did not dim but grew stronger across generations.

His ministry has never been confined to a pulpit; instead, he transformed streets, boardrooms, classrooms, and nations into sanctuaries of hope. His life’s work reflects the spirit of Galatians 6:9:
“Let us not grow weary in well-doing, for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.”

Rev. Jackson never fainted.
He never wavered.
He never stopped believing in the promise of a better tomorrow.

And he taught us to believe as well.

We honor not only his public achievements but also the compassion, courage, and conviction that have defined his journey. His words continue to echo across generations, reminding us of our God given worth and the power of perseverance. As he so often declared:

“Keep hope alive.”

Today, we celebrate a man who has done exactly that, kept hope alive in the hearts of millions. His legacy is not merely historical, it is living, breathing, and still shaping the conscience of our nation.

Together, we can ensure that the light he ignited never dims, but instead grows brighter with each passing generation.

With profound respect and gratitude,
Bishop Charles W. Harris Jr.

A Pastoral Commentary from Bishop Charles W. Harris Jr.

On the Recent Racist Depictions of President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama

Beloved, my heart is grieved, yet my spirit remains steadfast in the Lord. A deeply offensive and racist image has circulated depicting President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama as apes. Such imagery is not merely inappropriate; it is a direct assault on the dignity of God’s creation and a painful reminder of the dehumanization historically used to justify oppression.

As the Senior Pastor of Bethel Church of Love & Praise and the Chief Apostle, Presiding Prelate of Covenant Kingdom Ministries International, I must speak with clarity, conviction, and compassion.

Racism Is a Sin Against God and Humanity

The Word of God declares:

“So God created mankind in His own image…” Genesis 1:27

To portray any human being regardless of political affiliation, race, or background as less than the image of God is to rebel against God Himself. Racism is not only a political issue, it is a spiritual one. It is a violation of God’s design and an affront to His glory.

Words and Images Carry Power

Scripture reminds us:

“Death and life are in the power of the tongue.” Proverbs 18:21

In this digital age, images speak as loudly as words. When leaders or public figures share or endorse demeaning portrayals, they sow seeds of division, hatred, and confusion. Leadership carries responsibility, and the people of God must hold all leaders regardless of office to a standard of righteousness.

We Must Reject the Spirit of Division

Jesus teaches:

“Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation.” Matthew 12:25

America cannot heal while racism is tolerated, minimized, or excused. The Church must be the prophetic voice that calls our nation back to justice, truth, and love. Silence in the face of injustice is complicity.

Responding with Righteousness, Not Revenge

The Apostle Paul instructs:

“Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.” Romans 12:21

Our response is not hatred for hatred, nor insult for insult. We stand firm, we speak truth, and we refuse to bow to the spirit of racism. But we also pray for our leaders, for our nation, and for the healing of hearts poisoned by prejudice.

Affirming the Dignity of the Obamas and All People of Color

President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama have served this nation with dignity and grace. Regardless of political differences, they deserve the respect owed to every human being created by God.

The Church must declare without hesitation:

Black lives are sacred. Black dignity is non-negotiable. Black humanity is God-given.

A Call to the Body of Christ

Let us rise above the noise of political conflict and stand on the unshakable foundation of Scripture. Let us be repairers of the breach, peacemakers, and truth-tellers.

As the prophet Micah proclaimed:

“What does the Lord require of you but to do justice, love mercy, and walk humbly with your God?” Micah 6:8

This is our mandate. This is our calling. This is our witness.

A Pastoral Prayer

Father, heal our land. Expose the roots of racism and uproot them by Your power. Strengthen Your people to stand for justice without compromise and to love without fear. Let the Church be a beacon of truth in a dark and divided world. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

From the desk of the Presiding Prelate,
Bishop Charles W. Harris Jr.

To the Catholic Church

On behalf of Bishop Charles W. Harris Jr. and the leadership of Covenant Kingdom Ministries International, we extend our deepest condolences to the Catholic Church on the passing of His Holiness, Pope Francis. We join you in mourning the loss of a remarkable spiritual leader whose life was a testament to humility, compassion, and unwavering faith.

Pope Francis embodied the teachings of Christ, reaching out to the marginalized and inspiring countless souls to walk in the light of the Gospel. His dedication to fostering unity among believers and his commitment to justice and mercy will forever be remembered as a beacon of hope in a world yearning for peace.

As we grieve this profound loss, we find solace in the words of Scripture: *“Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted”* (Matthew 5:4). May the Lord’s promise of comfort bring peace to the hearts of all who loved and admired Pope Francis.

We also reflect on the assurance found in Romans 8:38-39: “For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” May this truth remind us that Pope Francis is now in the eternal presence of our Heavenly Father.

Please know that our prayers are with the Catholic Church, the College of Cardinals, and all who are entrusted with continuing the mission of the Church during this time of transition. May the Holy Spirit guide and strengthen you as you honor the legacy of Pope Francis and move forward in faith.

With heartfelt sympathy and prayers,

Bishop Charles W. Harris Jr.
