For Ambassador Girl Scout Taylor Cloutier, diabetes prevention through healthy diet and lifestyle is important and personal, which is why she selected an educational campaign as the topic for her Gold Award project.

The Diocese of Helena MT sent this photo from their workshop on Dec. 9 with 20 Girl Scouts who earned the St. Juan Diego patch and the Our Lady of Guadalupe patch. The event flyer said this workshop was open to all denominations. On an interesting note, of the 20 girls that attended, 11 were Catholic and 9 were "other." Read on if you want to hear why the others attended:

Two have a Great Grandma that was Catholic (their mom is a GS leader who sent them to last year's Our Lady of Fatima workshop, thinking it was good to give her kids some contact with religion).
One participant has grandparents that are Catholic and are from Mexico, and the grandparents insisted she come to learn some of her culture.
One participant's dad is Catholic but doesn't attend church - the girl usually goes to the Baptist church but she thought the patch was so beautiful that she wanted to attend!
Two participants had been foster kids with a Catholic GS family last year, but are now back with their mom, and the mom always sends them to these events. The former foster kids brought a friend with who wasn't a G.S. but was staying at their house (they asked if she could come 30 minutes before the event!).
One participant is Baptist but loved the patch (she had earned Our Lady of Fatima, too).
And we didn't get the story of the 9th participant, so we'll chalk it up to Our Lady of Guadalupe's influence!
