A Formal Statement from Bishop Charles W. Harris Jr.
concerning the Supreme Court’s Ruling Impacting the Voting Rights Act
To the Clergy of Covenant Kingdom Ministries International Fellowship:
Grace and peace be unto you in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I write to you today with a solemn heart regarding the recent Supreme Court ruling that has effectively weakened key protections of the Voting Rights Act protections historically essential to safeguarding the political voice of African American citizens in this nation. This development carries profound implications for justice, equity, and the moral fabric of our democracy.
As spiritual leaders, we are not called to partisan engagement, but we are called to prophetic responsibility. The disenfranchisement of any people, especially those whose right to vote was secured through generations of struggle, sacrifice, and suffering, demands our prayerful attention and our unified pastoral response.
The Scripture instructs us plainly: “Open thy mouth, judge righteously, and plead the cause of the poor and needy” (Proverbs 31:9). This is not political rhetoric; it is biblical mandate.
In this moment, I urge each of you to stand firm in your calling as watchmen on the wall. Teach our congregations the importance of civic stewardship. Encourage them to remain vigilant, informed, and engaged. Strengthen their resolve through prayer, discipleship, and historical awareness. We must shepherd God’s people with wisdom, courage, and the anointing of the Holy Ghost, knowing that the same God who sustained our foreparents is yet sustaining us today.
Let us move forward with dignity, unity, and unwavering faith, trusting that righteousness will prevail and that God will continue to guide His people through every season of challenge.
In His Service,
Bishop Charles W. Harris Jr.
Presiding Bishop, Covenant Kingdom Ministries International
