Oh Prince of Peace, may all swords be turned into plowshares, spears into pruning hooks, may we study war no more. Let all institutions of violence be turned towards mercy. May all who suffer from the horrors and abuse of war find compassion and mercy, and all those who perpetrate them find justice. Amen.

Dear Members and Friends of the Congregational Church of Birmingham, UCC,

Greetings and the peace be with you. I have, as many of you have, been following news reports about the attack on Temple Israel in West Bloomfield. At this early stage of any incident, little is known, and information and facts on the ground can be hard to ascertain.

We stand in solidarity with the Jewish community. We pray for their safety, peace, and wholeness and affirm that all should be able to live and worship in peace. We are saddened by the ongoing trauma and necessarily heightened security that Jewish people and communities continue to endure. Antisemitism should have no place in American civic or religious life.

We stand alongside all people of goodwill in praying for peacemakers, and for peace and justice in this world.

God be with us all.

In Peace,

Pastor Shane
