Welcome to Big Tree Wesleyan Church.
We are thankful you will be joining our Sunday Service online or in person.

Big Tree Wesleyan has had a long and rich history of pastors who loved the Lord Jesus Christ and congregations who loved their Pastor.
I came to this church in 1968 when it was a small white church, a scary basement where the children's church was held, and a sanctuary with old movie theater seats.
We came here when a young pastor named Tom and Autho Black took the call to lead Big Tree and did so for nearly 40 years.
Next was Pastor Mark and Linda Surbrook, who came in July 1997 until July 2007.
Time and space do not allow the fullness, richness or due justice to what these men brought to Big Tree Wesleyan.
They were beloved men who loved God, who's hearts were always focused on the lost, and seeing them come to Jesus Christ as personal Lord and Savior.
Today and for the past nearly 18 years (but my timing could be a little off), we have been led by Pastor Doug Ingersol and his wife Kathy. Kathy grew up in this church and she and Doug met and dated and got married here.
I'll let them tell the rest of the story, but ask them about their Grateful Dead days. It will help you to understand the kind of person our pastor is. Sundays are "rarely" not entertaining.

October is Pastor Appreciation month, and we are so thankful to God for our Pastor, Doug and his amazing wife Kathy. For over 17/18 years they have blessed us with their leadership, love for Christ and this congregation, but above all their love for Jesus and the desire to see all come to Him as personal Lord and Savior.

Thank you Pastor Doug and Kathy.

Big Tree Wesleyan is a church on the border of Hamburg and Blasdell, NY. Our heart is for our community, so we continually seek to be a place where people are loved and cared for.

We are pleased to have Joey Dichaiara from Southtowns Christian Center, lovingly called SCC, filling the pulpit this morning to bring an inspired word from God.
It is a pleasure to have this relationship with SCC to be able to share pastors and worship teams from time to time.
We have been blessed in the past by the preaching from all those at SCC and expect the Holy Spirit will fall on him and bless him today.
Please lift Joey before the throne of God as he brings the message the Spirit has laid on his heart.

Welcome to Big Tree Wesleyan Church.
This Sunday is October 4, 2026.
The calendar say this is World Communion Day. A day when we are called to recognize the Last Supper before Christ gave up His Life.
Scripture says in the book of Luke “And he took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave to them saying, “This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me.” In the same way, after the supper he took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you.” Luke 22:19-20.
For far too many this is a matter of ritual.
What it should be a time of reflection of the price paid on our behalf by our Savior. A price we rightly deserve for our sin, yet a Loving and Gracious Savior went to the cross and bore our sin.
A price He would have paid, even if it was just one of us.

Please take time to truly contemplate what the Last Supper means. It isn't just a wafer or piece of bread, and a cup of juice or w**e we partake in on the first Sunday of every month.
It is the last time Jesus would spend a meal with His disciples.
It is the representation of the brutality of the scourging of 39 lashes that tore His flesh, the searing agony of the spikes driven into his wrists and ankles, the roughness of the splinters as His body slid down a rough hewn piece of wood driven into a hole in the ground.
It is the specter of His separation from the Father.

Thank you Lord Jesus for this matchless gift of grace.

Welcome to Big Tree Wesleyan church. We are so glad you are with us today.
Today is National Chocolate Milk day. Who doesn't remember the days of mixing the chocolate powder into a glass of milk, how the powder would clump up and you'd have to keep stirring and stirring until it was finally mixed. Then when you finished, there was still chocolate on the bottom.
It reminds me how God has to keep stirring and stirring us until it looks like we're "just right" only to find at the bottom, there's still more that needs to be done.
If you feel like God is stirring your soul today, remember, He's not done with you yet. You may need more stirring, but remember, it's not your job to stir, it's His.
Let the Holy Spirit "stir" up your soul today. Let Jesus be the One to bring you to that perfection, you only have to be willing and obedient.

NKJV Psalm. 25:1 To You, O Lord, I lift up my soul.

ESV. Psalm 42:11 "Why are you cast down, O my soul, and why are you in turmoil within me? Hope in God; for I shall again praise him, my salvation and my God."

Thank You Father for stirring us up in our souls to worship and honor You. To You be all Glory, Honor, and Majesty. For drawing us to our Savior Jesus Christ, and for asking the Holy Spirit to reside in us.

Welcome to BigTree Wesleyan church. We are so pleased you are joining us today and pray the service will be a blessing to you.

Today is National Wife Appreciation Day.
The relationship between two people takes balance. Every day, spouses do things for each other, sometimes without thinking. Other times, work and responsibilities get in the way. This observance offers a reminder to show a little appreciation to your wife.
This particular observance sets aside time for couples who have no children. Not every woman is a mother, either by chance or choice. Since so many holidays celebrate families with children, this day offers a day for those who remain childless.
I am so blessed for the Godly wife I have and thank God every day. Time goes by so fast, it's been 10 amazing years already and that doesn't include the 4 years of dating.
So gentlemen, take a moment to appreciate the partner God blessed you with.

Please enjoy our fantastic worship time together followed by the Holy Spirit inspired word by Pastor Doug.

Welcome to Big Tree Wesleyan.

Today is the 25th anniversary of 9/11/2001. A monumental day when our world was shaken by evil. Our nation's faith was tested.
On 9/10/2025, a young, charismatic man of faith, Charlie Kirk, was assassinated on a college campus.
We know the enemy is doing everything to blunt the gospel being spread. To discourage us, when we see Christ succeeding, seeing the lost coming to faith in Jesus Christ.

We ask "where is God" or "how could a loving God allow this" in times of difficulty? Whether it's a life changing event like 9/11 in New York city, the Pentagon in Washington D.C., a field in Shanksville, PA, a college campus in Utah, or even in our own lives when we face deeply personal battles, be they spiritual, physical, emotional, financial or something else.

God’s silence is often misunderstood. We wonder if he has abandoned us, is punishing us, or doesn’t care. When we have no answers, we might fill in the gaps ourselves, assigning motives to God based on what we see. David felt abandoned as he fled from his enemies, crying out, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” (Psalm 22:1). Even Jesus, in His humanity, uttered the same words on the cross.

If you are going through a dark tunnel — waiting in silence — take heart. You are not forgotten. God is working in your waiting. He is preparing something greater than you can imagine.

Immerse yourself in God's word.
Lean on the prayers of others.
Learn from the lessons of others.

The silence will not last forever. God is trustworthy.

Joshua 1:9 "Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”
