LONG POST WARNING
My heart is heavy for our beautiful mountain community. Yesterday, a young man, a heavily involved high school senior, employee of a local food establishment, friend to many and son and grandson to others, decided that his burden was too heavy to carry. As a result, he ended his life. Is there anything that I could have done to help?
I didn’t know him but I’m sure I’ve seen him. I frequented his employer on many occasions and probably encountered him along the way. Could I have offered him an extra smile? Could I have been kinder than I was? Could I have offered him a word of encouragement?
I know that I’m not responsible for his decision, but I know there are many others out there just like him and there is a possibility that I could help them. So here is my plea.
If you are feeling low, talk to someone. If you think you can’t handle it, there are those out there who want to help. There are all kinds of people who will take time out of their schedule to listen, to lift and strengthen your arms in the midst of the battle.
And I can introduce you to a Savior who says to you, “Come unto me all you that are weary and heavy laden and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” (Matthew 11:28-30) He also says “A bruised reed I will not break,
and a smoldering wick I will not s***f out,” (Matthew 12:20). Jesus loves you!
Please don’t hurt alone! Reach out and let someone help you carry your load. If you’re a Christian, reach out and share Jesus. He really does make a difference!
