I read to my granddaughters class today. You can see what two books I read for these great kids. After the readings the teacher then had the students ask me various questions and wow did they! What's my favorite car, color, movie and even my favorite scientist?! They even asked me what my favorite book is. Can you guess?

Jenn Gidman, of the Newser writes, "Amid increasing ma*****na legalization over the past two decades or so, both medicinal and recreational, has come a spike in accompanying car accidents. According to a 2021 study in the American Journal of Public Health, the percentage of car-crash fatalities tied to cannabis was just 9% in 2000; in 2018, it bumped up to 21.5%—and contributing to the problem is that it's not exactly clear for cannabis users when it's safe to get behind the wheel after smoking a joint or downing an edible, reports the Wall Street Journal. "It's a big concern," Jane Metrik of Brown's Center for Alcohol and Addiction Studies tells the paper. "There's more people on the roads driving after they used cannabis or as they're smoking or va**ng."

The Journal notes that "pot affects you differently than alcohol, can linger in your system for longer, and it can be harder to figure out when it's safe to drive." Drivers with THC in their system, however, in general tend to drive more slowly; the drug also affects how well they stay in their lane, how far they stay behind other drivers, their reaction time, and judgment overall. Currently, a dozen states have a "zero tolerance" rule when it comes to THC in one's system, whereas other states have set a THC limit of 2 nanograms to 5 nanograms per milliliter of blood."

So how is the Church supposed to deal with [dope] and those who use this product which is becoming legal for more than medical use in more and more States? The same way it deals with alcohol use.

The Bible is clear when it says in Ephesians (5:18NASB) "And do not get drunk with wine, for that is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit,..." Dissipation is debauchery, excess causing some to say, "I only have a little alcohol (or dope, as the case may be)." "It doesn't affect me.", they go on to say. Here's the problem with that, drunkenness does not have to be 'fall-on-your-face' inebriation. It only has to alter your thought processes in the least degree to create problems. Paul told Timothy to "take a little wine...for your ailments", (1Tm 5:23). So motive plays a factor to mind altering substances. Since we're talking about ma*****na, in light of the article above, it begs the question, "How much dope does it really take for someone to kill another on a highway?" Since we spoke of motive, maybe someone uses pot medicinally. The same benefits that THC provides is offered via pill, gummy or the plant itself. the pills and gummy products don't cause inebriation, so why smoke it for medical reasons? Maybe because the motive of the user isn't entirely pure.

Really people!, If you want to get high, get Jesus and get high on life! (read John 10:10 if you doubt that's possible.)

The Bow of Covenant Blessing

Noah was a great preacher according to Peter’s words at 2 Peter 2:5 when he was called a “preacher of righteousness”. This nomenclature forces be to ask a couple of questions. The first relates to the term ‘righteousness’, what did it mean that he was called this?

The answer is found in Genesis chapters 6-9 having to do with the horrible moral condition that mankind was in. Things were so bad, sin was so great and rampant that we are told that God was sorry that He made man at all. He did find one man (Noah) and his family who were spared from this condemnation and were given a task. Build a boat, a really big boat! During the construction of this Noah would have been approached as to what he was doing and then ridiculed by the very people he was preaching to! This word he shared would have been contrary to the moral choices they were steeped in - it is this which describes Noah’s preaching, that of righteousness.

Paul told a group of living in Italy, specifically in Rome that “all have sinned” and then told them as a result of this choice of theirs (and ours) that the result of sin is death (Romans 3:23 & 6:23). The teachings that lead people away from such a life and into a life of eternal Paradise with God are found to be righteous. Proverbs chapter 10 has very much to say about being righteous but how does a person learn to be so? Look to Jesus. John 1:1 states “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God and the Word was God.” V. 14 says that “the Word became flesh and dwelt among us the only begotten from the Father full of grace and truth.” Then Acts in three different places calls Jesus the Righteous One (3:14, 7:52 and 22:14). We can conclude from this that Jesus teaches righteousness.
