Lion of Judah Speaks Parashah: Num. 13:1-15:41 06/10/2026
Dr. Jeffery Lyn Myers
Lion of Judah Ministries

Numbers 13:16 -14:4 is perhaps one of the single collective failures of leadership in Torah. The story of the 12 spies, 10 who gave an evil report and the two who stood in faith. The Talmud comments on this narrative and states, “One wo spreads evil reports almost denies the existence of Elohim.” We find that 10 of the spies whom Moshe sent to spy out the Land came back with a report calculated to demoralize the nation.

This spew of negative reporting was nonsense! The people should have known it…they left Egypt, the greatest empire of the ancient world, and victory was theirs! What are people telling you? What are you telling you? What is the enemy telling you? It is all nonsense!

Israel survived a series of plagues, crossed a seemingly impenetrable barren Red Sea, and fought and defeated the Amalekites, which were a ferocious-warrior nation! The Israelites should have known that their reputation went ahead of them and that the people of the land were afraid of them, not the other way around.

It wasn’t until 40 years later when Rahab told the spies that they all were prepared to surrender…but the enemy told a different story which they believed…propaganda! The Land was good – great and full of bounty just as Elohim promised. The 10 spies, however, interpreted the giant grapes differently and used them as evidence that the Land was inhabited by unconquerable giants!

“What would you expect from the vineyards of giants?” Isn’t it strange how two people can look at the same things- such as a cluster of grapes and come to opposite conclusions? Only Joshua and Caleb among the 12 showed true leadership. To Joshua and Caleb – giant grapes were a good thing but to the other spies’ giant grapes were a sign of despair. Joshua and Caleb told the people they could take the Land because Elohim was with them, but the people did not listen! That is a shame then and today!

Joshua and Caleb got their reward because they were the only two of their generation who lived to enter the Land. Their faith and refusal to be afraid shines as bright today as it did 33 centuries ago…they are eternal heroes of faith!

As leaders, as men, parents and teachers we are to give people a sense of confidence. Confidence in themselves, in the group they are in, in the mission itself. Confidence is Latin for “having faith together,” there is a self-fulfilling prophesy that applies to our lives: Those who say -” We cannot do it” are probably correct, as are those who say, “We can!”

If you lack confidence you will lose! If you have it, solid, justified confidence based on preparation and not performance…You will win! You will win enough to triumph over setbacks and failures!

Remember when Moshe’s hands were raised during battle…when the Israelites looked up – they win but when they looked down, they would start to lose. We must lift up our heads to where our help comes from…not from man but from Elohim! Faith is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen.

Optimism is the belief that things will get better but hope is the belief that together we can make things better. From Amos to Jeremiah there were voices of hope! However, by the 10 spies’ defeatism – as leaders, they failed! In Numbers 13:3 the Torah tells us these spies were all leaders, princes and heads of tribes. They knew Elohim was with them and that with His help nothing is impossible and they could do anything.

They knew Elohim would not promise them a land they could not conquer. Why then did they come back with a negative (evil) report? Could it be those 10 spies were not afraid of defeat but were afraid of victory? What they said to the people was one thing but what led them to say it was another entirely.

Let’s ask the question: What was their situation now in the wilderness? They lived in close and continuous proximity to Elohim. They drank water from a rock. They ate manna from heaven. They were surrounded by clouds of Glory. The miraculous accompanied them along the way. What would be their situation in the Land?

They would have to fight wars, plough the Land, plant the seed, gather the harvests and create and sustain an army, an economy and a welfare system. They would have to do what every other nation does – live in the real world of empirical space! What would happen to their relationship with Elohim?

Yes, He would still be present in the rain that made the crops to grow and in the blessings of the field, town and in the Temple in Jerusalem that they could visit 3 times a year. However, he would not be as visible, intimate ands miraculous as He was in the desert. So, did the spies’ not fear failure, but did they fear success? This might be a noble sin but sin none the less!

I want miracles! I want supernatural! I want an outpouring! I want to feel…but Elohim wants us to live in the real world. He wants us to create a dwelling place here. He wants His Shekinah, Divine Presence brought into everyday life! It is easy to find Elohim in total seclusion and escape from responsibility. It’s hard to find Elohim in the office, businesses, farms, fields, factories, finances and in life. However, it is that hard challenge to which we are summoned: To create a space for Elohim in the midst of this physical world that He created and seven times pronounced…it is good!

That is what the 10 spies failed to understand, and it was a spiritual failure that condemned an entire generation to 40 years of futile wandering. We are all familiar with the idea of fear of failure. It is what keeps us from taking risks, preferring to stay within our comfort zone.

But no less real is the “Fear of Success.” We want to succeed but unconsciously we fear what success may bring us…new responsibilities, expectations on the part of others that may be hard to fill. So, we fail to become what we might have become had someone given us faith in ourselves. The antidote to fear…both of failure and success lies within the passage at the end of this parashah.

Numbers 15:38-41 says, “Adonai said to Moshe, speak to the people of Israel, instructing them to make, through all their generations, tzittziyot on the corners of their garments and to put with the tzitzit on each corner a blue thread. It is to be a tzitzit for you to look at and thereby remember all of Adonai’s mitzvot and obey them, so that you won’t go around wherever your own heart and eyes lead you to pr******te yourselves; but it will help you remember and obey all my mitzvot and be holy for your Elohim. I am Adonai your Yah, who brought you out of the land of Egypt in order to be your Yah. I am Adonai your Yah.”

The command of the tzitziot teaches us to learn to look up so we overcome our fears! As leaders, as fathers…we give people and children confidence by teaching them to look up! We are not grasshoppers unless we think we are!

Joshua was a Jew, and Caleb was a Gentile and in Numbers 14:24 it says, “But My servant Caleb, because he had a different spirit within him and has fully followed Me – him I will bring into the Land he entered, and it will belong to his descendants.” We need a different spirit! A spirit against all odds commands us to take the Land Elohim has given us! Let us rise and do it!

Lion of Judah Speaks Haftorah: Joshua 2:1-24 06/13/2026
Dr. Jeffery Lyn Myers
Lion of Judah Ministries

The Haftorah’s central theme is about faith. This is the second chance the children of Israel have to take the Promised Land that Elohim had promised them and had already made a way for their victory. They failed the first time because of their unbelief. They shrunk back from moving forward because of fear and unbelief in Elohim’s Word. They had trusted in their own flesh and because of it they would be paralyzed to fulfill the purpose of Elohim.

Our own spiritual battles encounter the same struggles. Every time we set our hearts to honor Adonai, and walk in His ways, we always encounter new difficulties and battles. Sometimes the steepness of the mountain we are climbing seems too hard to climb and we are tempted to quit and drift back into the main stream of the majority’s unbelief. When we face a giant, it might be easier to turn around and walk down the hill but we are people of faith. Faith moves forward on the basis of who Yah is, not on one’s own strength and abilities.

We see the nation of Israel at a moment of decision…will they possess the land or turn back like their fathers before them? However, it is different this time because they were extending their faith and faithfulness by obeying Yah first, and leaving the consequences in His hands. We must rely by faith upon Elohim’s promises, and in doing so, we must train ourselves in the disciplines of being faithful. If Adonai said it, if He has promised it, then we can stand on His Word…His Word never, ever fails!

What is faith? Faith is not a blind jump in the dark, but it is a willingness to take a step forward into what seems an impossible situation because you trust Adonai! Hudson Taylor said, “God’s work, done God’s way, never lacks God’s support.” Whatever Yah has instructed us to accomplish, though there may be obstacles, in fact, an impossible one to overcome, that is when we exercise our faith in Him.

We stand believing that if He has instructed us, He will give us the means to obey Him! Our true strength comes from believing Elohim and acting in accordance with His Word. Isaiah 31:1 says, “Woe to those who go down to Egypt for help and rely on horses, and trust in chariots because they are many and in horsemen because they are very strong, but they do not look to the Holy One of Israel, nor seek Adonai! Her hope is the Yah of Abraham, Isaac, and Ya’akov.”

Israel could never possess the Land until she would be willing to do so by relying upon Yeshua. We can never possess the purpose and will of Elohim in our lives until we surrender to His Word and His way. They could no longer rely on their feelings or impressions or what they saw because their emotional aspect is not firm enough to form a sure foundation.

If our lives are based upon signs and wonders, then a lingering question of whether Elohim will perform or fulfill His promise stops us in our tracks. Not emotion, but commitment of the will through a true knowledge of His Word, trusting in Elohim forms the only solid foundation for living life by faith.

If we allow feelings and impressions to move us, we are walking on quick-sand that shifts with every situation, circumstance, and time. They are easily changed with every passing second; however, Elohim’s revealed promises stand firm.

So, we base our life of faith upon the Living Word of Yah that will allow us to scale the mountain, cross the Jordan, cause our Jericho to collapse and defeat our enemy! The contrast between the two generations standing at the edge of the Promised Land was one that was faithless, following their own feelings and surrendering to the masses and fear, the other, standing in their faith, following Elohim’s Word, causing the enemy to surrender and experiencing victory through the power of the Ruach.

Adonai does not lie! “Faith is the title-deed of things hoped for…” that is to say, Elohim gives us faith, the title-deed, so to speak, of what He intends to do for us in the future. “Faith” is the word translated “conviction” (evidence). The word describes the inner or soul phenomenon that comes from the act of believing. Faith produces a level of knowing not based upon observation but upon what Yah has said.

Our conviction is our willingness to accept the title as true and trustworthy. The connection of our parashah to the haftorah is obvious, but contrastive. In the first narrative, the leaders of the tribes return with an evil report which communicated their lack of faith, however, in the second narrative, 40 years later, Rahab hides the spies, protecting them with her words and thereby gains divine protection and deliverance for her and her household. Her faith and their faithfulness are in stark contrast, as well as the faith of Joshua and Caleb.

In this week’s Parashat, it opens with Moshe sending twelve men, one from each tribe, to scout out the Land of Israel in preparation for its conquest. The story ends in disaster! Ten of the twelve scouts bring back an evil report. Only Joshua and Caleb encourage the people to take the Land.

The people believed the majority, refused to take the Land as Yah has commanded, and end up being condemned to perish in the wilderness. What the scouts reported was correct, but the manner in which they reported it was fashioned to persuade the people against obeying Elohim. Sadly, it worked and the generation was punished for their unbelief.

We must learn from this empowering narrative of a people who have a choice to trust and obey or exhibit unbelief and disobey. We must never fail to see that possessing “our land” is an act of faith or fail to appreciate the blessings Elohim has promised if we would just obey His commands. Yes, our Land might possess formidable armies, cities that are fortified, and warriors of great stature.

Yet, faith considers Elohim bigger than the giants! Elohim intends for the world to see that He is, in fact, the only True Yah when He gives victory over enemies far stronger than us. Elohim uses the weak to defeat the strong because we learn to exercise true faith in Elohim.

Apart from this faith, the purpose of Elohim in our lives will never be ours. Do we despise the will of Elohim in our lives so much that we are unwilling to take the step into the impossible, trusting Elohim for the promises He has given us? To know Elohim’s Will and Word is not enough – we must also know Him to be the One who keeps His promises, based upon a genuine faith in His character, we are enabled to love Him by keeping His commandments. If we possess true faith, we will then be able to accomplish His Will, both for our good and His glory! So, it is time, time to possess the Land He has given you, to walk in His Word and Will fulfilling your purpose.

Remove the thoughts of doubt and unbelief and step forward in faith…He will perform His Word! Step out in faith and watch what Adonai will do! Elohim is able and He does not lie – what He said – HE WILL DO!

Lion of Judah Speaks Haftorah: Zechariah 14 6/06/2026
Minister Chuck Dunn
Lion of Judah Ministries

Zechariah 14 is a literal and end-time prophecy depicting the apocalyptic battle of Jerusalem
and the subsequent return of Yeshua to establish His earthly Millennial Kingdom.
It is a climactic, prophetic finale detailing the “Day of the Lord”. It describes a severe final siege
on Jerusalem, a dramatic divine rescue where the Messiah’s feet touch the Mount of Olives, and
the establishment of His universal, holy, eternal, Messianic Kingdom.
Zechariah prophesied that soon God would be King over the whole earth and His capital,
Jerusalem, would be secured forever, but first, God recruits all the armies of the world to wage
war against Jerusalem. The city is attacked and half of its population is carted off into exile.
God then appears with an army and places His feet on The Mount of Olives. His army pushes
the enemy back, and His feet cracks the Mount of Olives in two. A valley is formed (the Valley
of Jehosaphat), and the faithful in the city escape through it.
God said the disorder of that day will be like the disorder that was present before the creation of
the world. Just as He did all those years ago, He will create a new Garden of Eden in
Jerusalem from the chaos. Soon rivers of life-giving water will flow from the city and light will
dawn on Jerusalem as if for the first time. Jerusalem will be secure, never to be attacked again.
God will then invite His faithful people to come and reinhabit the capital city of a new creation.
God as king, will then summon the whole world to celebrate the Feast of Tabernacles. This
feast celebrates God’s rescue of His people from Egypt and how He fed and clothed them when
they were in the wilderness.
It is appropriate then at the founding of God’s new world order to invite all nations to that same
feast. God warns that those who refuse to participate in the dawning of this new Eden will be
cursed. They will be separated from experiencing God’s creative power. They will suffer
plagues and panic instead.
Finally on that day of new creation, God says Jerusalem will be like one big temple. Everything
in it will be pure and everyone in it will be priests. There will be no more merchants taking
advantage of sincere worshippers. Instead and for the first time in God’s history with His
people, anyone at any time or anywhere will be able to thank God with buying items for sacrifice
using money. The Word is going to go forth. It may go under pressure now, but the Word will
go forth.

Lion of Judah Speaks Torah: Numbers 18:1, 12:16 6/06/2026
Minister Chuck Dunn
Lion of Judah Ministries

Duties of Priests and Levites:
Numbers 18:1 Then the Lord said to Aaron, “You and your sons and your father’s house with you shall bear the iniquity related to the sanctuary, and you and yours sons with you shall bear the iniquity associated with your priesthood.”
It isn’t going out on a limb to say Moses and Aaron, especially Aaron, were given lots of privilege in a dramatic and miraculous way. God demonstrated that they were His leaders over the whole nation of Israel. When Korah and his assistant and 250 sympathetic leaders challenged the authority of Moses and Aaron, God came out against the challenges in a big way.
The earth opened up and swallowed Korah and his assistants. Fire came down from heaven and consumed the 250 men who were sympathetic to Korah. Since then, more than one leader has hoped that God would do the same to their challengers.
Even the Levites, who were ministers, had to tithe to support the Lord’s work. No one was exempt from returning to God a portion of what was received. Though the Levites owned no land and operated no great enterprise, they were to treat their income the same as everyone else did by giving a portion to care for the needs of the other Levites and the Tabernacle. The tithing principle is still relevant.
Numbers 12:16. This Bible verse states: "After that, the people left Hazeroth and encamped in the Desert of Paran.” It marks the end of the incident regarding Miriam’s leprosy (due to her rebellion against Moses) and the Israelites moving forward in their journey.
