Have you ever heard about the largest peaceful gathering on record?
Every year, during the Arbaeen walk, approximately 20 million pilgrims from diverse backgrounds visit the Shrine of Ali ibn Hussain in Karbala, Iraq to commemorate the values that he stood and died for. Hussain’s motto of, “an honorable death is better than a dishonorable life” inspired many social justice leaders ranging from South Africa’s Nelson Mandela to India’s Mahatma Gandhi. The eternity of his movement came from the fact that Hussain and his companions unified on a brotherhood grounded not in demographics such as race or ethnicity but on the belief in justice and freedom.
In spirit of this brotherhood, and to promote the values that this peaceful gathering cherishes, we would like to cordially invite you to our gallery exhibition on the Arbaeen walk. Join us as we draw inspiration from the captured scenes of friendship, diversity, and humility to discuss ways that we can together implement such values in our own community.
The exhibition hours will be from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m November 5 - November 8th, 2018 at Squires Student Center 2nd floor lobby. There will also be an opening reception on Tuesday November 6th from 3 to 5 p.m. We would be happy to answer any questions that you may have regarding our event.
We can’t wait to see you there!
