The penitential (repentance) season of Lent is also a catechetical (teaching) season. As we focus in more closely on the suffering, death, and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ during this most holy season, we reflect also upon our inclusion in that same death and resurrection in Holy Baptism. In order to help our reflection on the passion of our Lord this year, we will be using a sermon series entitled, “Sacred Head, Now Wounded,” which will focus on the great Lenten hymn “O Sacred Head, Now Wounded” (LSB 450).
This hymn will provide the theme for each of our midweek Wednesday Lenten services, starting on Ash Wednesday (February 18): A wounded Savior for a wounded people (2/18), the wound of betrayal (2/25), the wound of apathy (3/4), the wound of denial (3/11), the wound of mockery (3/18), the wound of abandonment (3/25), a meal for the wounded (Holy Thursday, 4/2), and the wounds that heal (Good Friday, 4/3).
Please join us for these Lenten midweek services at 5:30 p.m., with a light supper beforehand at 5:00 p.m.✝️
