Jibek lives in a remote, mountainous area of Kyrgyzstan where she tends sheep by herself to be able to read her Bible. She is experiencing persecution from her family for the decision to leave Islam and follow Jesus. Her daughters-in-law mock and mistreat her as they take all of her Christian books—including her Bible—and monitor her phone to delete any trace of Christian apps. Jibek is over the age of 60 and looks for reasons to visit larger cities so she can meet with other believers in church. When alone, she accesses Bible apps and watches sermons online, then deletes them so her family cannot find evidence to harass her. Her solitude among the sheep becomes a sanctuary with the Good Shepherd.
Lord Jesus, Shepherd of our souls, we thank You that You are meeting Jibek in the mountains of Kyrgyzstan, speaking to her through Your Word and giving her strength. You are providing companionship and encouragement for her as she meets with You. We ask for the persecution from her family to lessen and that they would be open to hearing more about You. Give Jibek wisdom in the ways she can find time with You, Lord, and protect her life as she seeks You.
“I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me…and I lay down my life for the sheep.”—John 10:14-15
