Benedictine Volunteers

Benedictine Volunteers Serve the World . Discern your Call Benedictine volunteers are given a wide variety of opportunities to serve.

We are a collaborative Catholic women’s volunteer program established by Benedictine communities in Texas and North and South Dakota. Our vision is to inspire a spirit of service and discernment by which each volunteer fully realizes the unique call God has placed in her heart to joyfully animate the world with God’s love, compassion, and justice. Opportunities are individually matched to each wom

an’s gifts and unique desires to serve. During their time of service, volunteers live, eat, pray, play, and work hand-in-hand with the Sisters in furthering the mission of each sponsoring religious community. Benedictine volunteers participate in a discernment program that is interwoven into their time of service. One weekend every month, volunteers from all sites come together at one site for solidarity, bonding, sharing, group-building, and entering into the process of discernment together. Additionally, each volunteer is offered a monthly spiritual direction opportunity and other spiritual enrichment opportunities such as lectio divina and retreat.

An important aspect of Benedictine Volunteers is participating in the prayer life of the sisters. The sisters gather in chapel four times a day for Liturgy of the Hours and to celebrate the Eucharist.

With fewer appointments, meetings, and obligations due to the pandemic, more of our sisters are able to gather for midday prayer. Today the chapel seemed especially full. What a blessing it is to pray together!

Abby has been busy helping the sisters of Annunciation Monastery with their Christmas preparations. This is one of the trees she helped set up, not to mention decorating, caroling, and hours of choir practice!
