Ever feel like life is putting your faith in a hydraulic press? Like every week comes with another email, another diagnosis, another bill, another reason to quietly panic while pretending you’re “doing fine”? That was Thessalonica. Following Jesus there was not a hobby. It was costly. Social pressure, political suspicion, persecution, grief, the whole storm rolling in at once.
And yet Paul writes to them with the steady heart of a pastor who knows that pressure does not only crush, sometimes it reveals what is real.

This week’s Bible Study: “Standing Firm: Faith, Holiness, and Hope in 1 Thessalonians 3–4,” explores how Paul encouraged this young church not merely to survive, but to stand firm with courage and tenderness in a hostile world.

A few themes rise off the page:

• Faith Under Pressure
Paul feared the tempter might shake their confidence, so he sent Timothy to strengthen and encourage them. Instead of collapse, Timothy returned with news of steadfast faith and love. Like a tree that somehow digs its roots deeper during the storm.

• Love That Keeps Growing
Paul calls them to a genuine brotherly love, not shallow politeness, but the kind of love that quietly carries one another through suffering.

• Holiness in Everyday Life
Paul reminds them that sanctification is not theory. It shows up in purity, self-control, honest work, and living “quiet lives” that reflect Christ in a noisy world.

• Hope Bigger Than Death
And then comes the great anchor, the Parousia, the return of Christ. Paul reminds grieving believers that death is not the end of the story. The dead in Christ will rise, and one day Jesus Himself will split the darkness wide open. Christianity is not wishful thinking wrapped in church clothes. It is resurrection hope.

As you look through the infographic this week, remember Paul’s closing counsel:
“Encourage one another with these words.” (1 Thessalonians 4:18)

Have you ever felt stuck in a cycle of trying harder to be a better person, only to feel like you are falling short?

The book of Colossians offers a beautiful shift. True transformation is not about following a stricter set of rules. Instead, it is a radical redefinition of your identity. Paul reminds us that because we are raised with Christ, our true life is now hidden with Christ in God.

Following Jesus is described as a Great Exchange. It is like stripping off a set of old, tattered clothes and putting on a brand new robe. We are called to put to death the old habits that destroy community, such as anger, greed, and harmful speech. In their place, we clothe ourselves in the compassion, kindness, humility, and love of Jesus.

Transformation is not about behaving better; it is about becoming who you already are in Christ.

When we realize that our worth is secure in Him, it changes how we treat everyone around us. The walls that divide us crumble. The peace of God begins to act as the umpire in our hearts, settling our differences and guiding our steps. Whether at home or at work, we can live with the quiet confidence that Christ is our life.

Reflective Question: What is one old garment, like a specific attitude or habit, you feel invited to strip away today so you can walk more freely in the new identity Christ has given you?

We would love to explore these truths more deeply with you. Join us for our Wednesday morning Bible study as we continue our journey through Colossians.

Midweek Bible Study – Colossians 2

This week, we stepped into one of the most powerful chapters in Scripture, and Paul doesn’t hold back.

From a prison cell, he agonizes in prayer for believers he has never even met, because he knows something we often forget: truth matters, and what we believe about Christ shapes everything.

Paul’s message is simple, but it cuts deep:
You don’t need more than Jesus.

Not more rules
Not secret knowledge
Not spiritual “add-ons.”

In Christ, you are already complete.

He is the treasure house of all wisdom
He has canceled the debt against you
He has disarmed every power of darkness
He has given you new life.

So Paul says, don’t let anyone judge you, control you, or convince you that you’re missing something.

Because you’re not

The danger isn’t always an obvious error; it’s often enticing words, things that sound spiritual but quietly pull us away from Christ.

And the answer isn’t trying harder
It’s holding tighter.

Holding fast to the Head, Jesus

👉 Reflect on this
Where am I being tempted to add to Jesus, instead of resting fully in Him?

Join us on Wednesday morning as we continue walking verse by verse through Colossians.

🌍 Christ at the Center of Everything

This week in our weekly Wednesday morning Bible study, we are exploring Colossians Chapter 1.

We stepped into the world of Colossae, a small, struggling town in the Lycus Valley, surrounded by trade, cultural diversity, and even earthquakes. Life there was unstable, physically, socially, and spiritually.

And into that world, a dangerous idea had crept in.

People began to believe that Jesus wasn’t enough.

They mixed faith with human traditions, mystical ideas, strict rules, and even the worship of angels, trying to “add” something to Christ.

Paul’s response?

He didn’t argue around the edges.
He went straight to the center.

👉 Colossians 1:15–20 declares that Jesus is:

The image of the invisible God

The firstborn over all creation (meaning supreme, not created)

The One through whom all things were made

The One in whom all things hold together

The head of the church

The One in whom all the fullness of God dwells

In other words, Jesus isn’t part of the answer.

He is the answer.

Paul reminds them that salvation is not about climbing up to God through systems, rules, or spiritual shortcuts.

It is about God coming down to us through Christ.

💡 “Christ in you, the hope of glory.”
This was the mystery now revealed, not just for a select few, but for everyone.

So what does this mean for us today?

In a world full of add-ons, self-help, spirituality, and endless voices telling us we need more...

👉 Paul says, No. You need Christ.

Not Christ plus something else.
Not Jesus supplemented with trends, systems, or experiences.

Just Christ, fully sufficient.

Reflection Question:
Where in your life are you tempted to add something to Jesus instead of trusting that He is enough?

🙏 Join us Wednesday mornings as we continue to discover what it means to live with Christ at the center of everything.
