Northside Church of Christ

Northside Church of Christ At Northside, our congregation is a family of Christian people who share faith in God, joy from our belief in Him and a love for others.

Please see the "About" section for more about who we are! The purpose of this page is to share the good news that Jesus saves! In addition we want to share a little of ourselves through streaming our Sunday service, motivating and encouraging others in their spiritual walk, and showing who we are. Our worship is simple- we pray, sing, study God's word, and share in communion. Members also give an

offering, visitors may if they choose. We believe that worship is to be conducted in "spirit and truth" (John 4:24), We study the scriptures to find examples of New Testament Christian worship and pattern ourselves after that truth, Keeping our worship simple keeps us humble before God and united with one another. One thing we are always asked about is our music. Yes, we have music, but we believe the New Testament scriptures describe music without instruments in the sections where singing is referenced. Historically, church history does not indicate the practice of instrumental music in worship until approximately 600 years after the church was established. In fact, the term "a ca****la" means "in the manner of the chapel" or "how the church does it". We would be glad to examine the scriptures with you further show you our basis for this belief. We believe the Bible is the inspired word of God and base our teaching and understanding on that word. In that word is the answer to many of life's questions, the biggest one being "What must I do to be saved?" Again, we look to the scriptures for that answer and would love to share that good news with you! If you would like to study on your own, we suggest you read the book of Acts, in which you will find several examples of individuals being converted to Christianity. As you read, pay special attention to the mention of baptism in relation to the believers conversion. We could tell you so much more about Jesus and His church as well as our own congregation. All we want to do is be Christians and follow the will of God in regard to His church and the lives we live. We believe the scriptures have all the answers and the best way to please God is to follow His word, keep His commandments, and love one another. We invite you to join us on this journey! Questions and requests for Bible study or prayer may be directed to us through this page or by writing us at P.O. Box 199 Bismarck, IL 61814. Music during the live stream service is used by permission under CCLI License #22369373.

"Grace to you and peace from God the Father and our Lord Jesus Christ, who gave Himself for our sins so that He might rescue us from this present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father, to whom be the glory forevermore. Amen." Galatians 1:3-5

"Grace and peace" are common in Paul's greetings or closings in his letters to the churches, indicating his prayerful desire for them. Grace is God's favor and peace refers to the reconciled relationship the Christian enjoys with the Father. To live apart from the favor of God is to endure a life of constant upheaval, strife, and disappointment. Paul points out here that God delivers grace and peace through Jesus Christ, who removed the burden of sin and leads us in the better life of spirit over the flesh. This promotes the peace in which we can face life with hope, faith, and assurance that we are right with God. Perhaps the most encouraging thing for the Christian and non-believer alike is that grace and peace for mankind is the will of God-God wants that for all of us! He hasn't thrown us into this life and wished us luck; He has seen our need, determined what was needed, provided it, and made it available to the world. The grace and peace of God is ours in Jesus Christ and God wants it for you! ❤

"And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation. The one who has believed and has been baptized will be saved; but the one who has not believed will be condemned." Mark 16:15,16

Shortly before Jesus ascended to heaven, He commissioned the remaining apostles to take the gospel to the world, baptizing those who believed. Baptism is a subject that is discussed and debated with many opinions as to its necessity, purpose, definition and meaning. Here, Jesus is very specific: "The one who has believed and has been baptized will be saved." Jesus connects baptism to the preaching of the gospel, belief in the gospel, and salvation through obedience to the gospel. This pattern can be seen in the accounts of Peter's sermon on Pentecost (Acts 2), the conversion of Cornelius (Acts 10), and the teaching of Ethiopian eu**ch (Acts 8). Baptism is the beginning of every Christian's walk of faith- Jesus is confessed as Lord, the life of sin is denounced, and the life of righteousness is pursued. There is nothing special about the water, but you are doing something more than just getting wet. You are establishing faith, receiving forgiveness, being transformed through obedience, and having a peace like no other- you are saved. ❤

Sunday is coming ...
"But he said to them, “Do not be amazed; you are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, who has been crucified. He has risen; He is not here; see, here is the place where they laid Him." Mark 16:6

The account of the resurrection of Jesus contains several reactions from His followers that might surprise you. Three women, including the mother of Jesus, were told that Jesus was no longer in the tomb and that they should go and tell the disciples He had risen. Instead of rejoicing, they became afraid to the point of choosing to stay silent (v8). Later, Mary Magdalene did go and tell the disciples in the midst of their mourning and weeping that Jesus was alive. Instead of rejoicing, they refused to believe her. Jesus Himself appeared in a different form to two disciples walking along the road. They believed and reported back to the disciples they had seen Jesus. Again, instead of rejoicing, they continued in their unbelief. We are talking about people who walked with Jesus, heard His teaching, saw His miracles, and witnessed fulfillment of the prophecy that He would be crucified. Yet, when the foretold resurrection occurred, they would not believe that He had risen, let alone been seen. Now, over two thousand years later, we still see people rejecting the resurrection or failing to see what its significance is to the world. Without it, the gospel fails. Without it, the hope of eternity with God dies. Without it, we are lost. The resurrection is necessary to provide forgiveness, mercy, grace and the love of God to mankind. Christians accept it, embrace it, honor it, and trust it. There is no doubt, rejection or fear. Jesus, the Son of God, died for our sins, was buried, and was raised by the power of God to live forever. We believe we will follow Jesus in the resurrection on the last day. Do you? ❤

You are invited to join us for worship at 10:30 or to view the live stream/video on our page. Jesus lives! His resurrection paved the way for ours and our hope rests in Him!

"And Peter remembered how Jesus had made the remark to him, “Before a rooster crows twice, you will deny Me three times.” And he hurried on and began to weep." Mark 14:72

The account of Peter's denials of Christ (v29-31; 66-72) begins with his bold statement of never denying Jesus, even under threat of death for such a stand. Over the course of that night, however, Peter did indeed deny his Lord three times. Two important lessons we see is that denial of faith can happen to anyone, even an apostle. The second lesson is that one can find their way back from such a setback and become an effective tool for God to use. One other note we can make is that Peter did not remember the words of Jesus until the rooster crowed. Sin can be so enticing through pleasure or intimidating through fear that it can cause one to conveniently "forget" about the word of God. Peter did not recall the word of the Lord until after he had denied Jesus three times. It was the crowing of the rooster, the signal of the end of the designated time, that "woke hime up" and reality hit home hard. Some may boldly state their faith, but do not support it with reading, understanding, and embracing the word of God. Anything God says on a matter should be at the forefront of our thinking and resulting action. Peter chose to "play with fire" and allowed himself to be put in a position where his faith, and his life, were in danger. Failing once did not alert him; he continued on, ultimately failing a second and third time. He could have recalled the words of Jesus anywhere along the way, but, did not and time ran out. This fate can befall anyone from the strongest in faith to the seeker of God. Sin gets in the way if the word of God is not implanted in your mind and written on your heart. Don't get comfortable in thinking your faith is insurmountable. The Bible was given to provide truth, guidance, wisdom, warning, and protection. Read it, think about it, and live by it. It will serve you well in being alert and navigating a world filled with situations that could ensnare you. There will come a day when time is at its end, there will be a shout and a trumpet sound (1 Thessalonians 4:16,17)- remember the words of the Lord now! ❤

"And He said to them, “My soul is deeply grieved, to the point of death; remain here and keep watch.” And He went a little beyond them, and fell to the ground and began praying that if it were possible, the hour might pass Him by." Mark 14:34,35

Shortly before the chain of events that would lead to the crucifixion of Jesus, we find Him in a state of despair, not knowing if He could go on and face what was to come. He did not organize His disciples and plan His escape, nor did He instruct them to prepare to fight. Instead, He sought time in prayer with His Father to reveal His heart. In the few details of this prayer, we see an example of Jesus that should be of great help to us in our own struggles. A troubled and distressed Jesus (v33) turned to the Father in prayer, humbly asked for His help (v35), acknowledged His power to do anything (v36), and reaffirmed His faith and obedience to the will of God. This was no short utterance, it was a time of prayer, long enough for Jesus to stop and check on His disciples three times (v41). His disciples were found to be asleep each time, even though He had asked them to join Him in prayer (v38). After praying, we see a different Jesus. He is no longer distressed, rather, He is prepared and ready to go and meet his fate. In life, each of us will face a challenge(s) that causes us great concern and we wonder if we can go on. If we follow this example of Jesus, we find comfort, peace, and resolve to face whatever comes. The power of God to make anything happen did not allow this hour to "pass Him by", yet the Father was there, listening and acting to see Him through. We are not promised to avoid pain, sorrow, and disappointment in this life, but we are promised that the God of possible can take what we see as an impossibe situation and turn it into a time of peace, strength and courage to face troubled times and continue in the will of God. ❤
