Dennis Michael Hanley Obituary
Dennis Hanley, age 90, passed away November 11, 2025, under the care of his wife and Compassus. He was born January 4, 1935, in Beloit, Wisconsin, to Berwyn and Gladys (Musall) Hanley. At the age of 10, he and his siblings moved to Birnamwood to live with his grandfather, Rev. Carl Musall, who was the pastor at Trinity for many years. He attended Birnamwood School, where he excelled in sports. He lettered in football, basketball, and baseball, earning 12 letters. In 1953, his basketball team won the division and went on to play in Madison.
He attended University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. In 1957, he entered the army and served 2 years in Korea. He then went back to college and graduated in 1960 with a bachelor’s degree in science. He worked various jobs and got into insurance. He started working at Allstate Insurance in 1964–and worked for them for 30 years- first in the office and then as a claims adjuster.
In August of 1964, he married Arlene Luetschwager.
In his spare time, he enjoyed golfing, fishing, and hunting. He went fishing in Canada many times over the years. He served on the Trinity Church Council. In his last years, he enjoyed going to the casino, doing Sudoku puzzles, and watching sport on TV. He will be remembered and missed by family and friends for his great sense of humor.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Arlene (Luetschwager) Hanley; four children, Michael (Bonnie) Hanley, Michelle (Richard) Shepherd, Patrick Hanley, and Kathleen (Willie) Reed; six grandchildren, Brett (Emmie) Hanley, Caitlin Hanley, Hunter Reed, Haley (Reed) Wittenberg, Olivia Shepherd, and Ethan Shepherd; and one great-granddaughter, Laura Mae Hanley. He is further survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, John Hanley; sister, Janice Kinzel; and brother-in-law, Ralph Kinzel.
There will be a memorial service held at 2:30 pm on November 22, 2025, at Trinity Church in Birnamwood. Visitation will take place from 1:00 PM until the time of services at the church.
Mid-Wisconsin Cremation Society is assisting the family.
