We had an amazing first day of Lampstand Conference here in Columbia, SC!

We are so grateful for the apparent attentiveness of the attending church leaders and for their love of Christ’s Church. We’ve heard amazing teachings from Drs. Currie and Hawkes, and we had the privilege of having Dr. Stewart’s inaugural Lampstand sessions.

Stay tuned as we now begin conference day two, where we will break into three different tracks on Church Revitalization, Church Planting, and Church Acceleration. We appreciate your prayers for the Lord to bless our time together.

Lampstand is a teaching, coaching, and mentoring ministry that equips and encourages church leaders as they pursue church vitality. For more than 25 years, the Lampstand team has come alongside churches to equip their leaders with Biblical principles for church planting, church revitalization, and church acceleration.

Church Planting – Igniting the Flame
Our experienced church planting faculty and coaches provide instruction and insight that is both Biblical and practical for starting spiritually healthy churches that are committed to worship, evangelism, discipleship and leadership development.

Church Revitalization – Embers to a Flame
Lampstand uses the Biblical paradigm found in Jesus’ words in Revelation 2:5 to the church at Ephesus—“Remember, Repent, and Recover the First Things”—Lampstand’s revitalization track equips churches that have fallen into spiritual decline and functional malaise.

Church Acceleration – Fanning the Flame
As a church grows spiritually and expands its impact functionally, it is crucial to stay on Message, in Mission, and in Ministry. Our church acceleration track focuses on next-level leadership development, decision-making, and faithful shepherding for the next season in the life of Biblically healthy churches.

It happened last September, in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, during the first Lampstand Conference since his homegoing and while teaching the weekend’s final Session. In that session we encourage Pastors to seek out a handful of faithful men as mentors but to choose their heroes from among those who had finished their course well, as good and faithful servants. As soon as those words came out of my mouth it hit me: my mentor was now my hero.

No one could be more circumspect about using the word “hero” to describe redeemed sinners called by God to proclaim the good news of Jesus Christ than was Harry Reeder. The type of men he referred to as heroes were those who knew they were made of dust but, through the truths of creation and redemption, knew also they were called to share in his glory; men who refused to boast in their remarkable gifts but only in their crucified, risen, and ascended Lord; men who saw significant obstacles—dangers, toils, and snares—in the world around them but led their flocks forward as they trusted in the sufficient grace of the One who had overcome the world; men who could easily have lorded over many but instead equipped them for the work of ministry, rejoicing in God’s working in their faithful service.

These kinds of men are truly heroes of the faith because they truly believe that the only people God calls and uses for his glory are those who glory in Christ alone, with His strength made perfect in their weakness, from faith for faith.

So, yes, Harry Reeder is one of those men: a hero. Though my time of serving with him as my Pastor was brief, it was one of the most encouraging times of growth yet in over 30 years of pastoral ministry. Thank you, Lord, for gifting your Church with this your servant.
