A lot has been happening behind the scenes at Birmingham First! Throughout the past month, our staff and volunteers have been hard at work organizing costume and storage closets, tackling projects throughout the building, and even hemming and repairing our choir robes. We are so grateful for the many hands that have helped us get ready for a new season together.

And now, we’re ready to welcome you back! Welcome Back Sunday is September 13, with worship beginning at 9:30 a.m. Between services, meet us on the lawn for donuts, conversation, and a chance to reconnect as we begin another great fall at Birmingham & Berkley First.

We’re excited to share a glimpse of Angela Montgomery’s summer in ministry and mission!

Angela, our summer ministerial intern at Birmingham & Berkley First, recently traveled to Alaska with her family and a Volunteers in Mission team from Livonia: Newburg UMC. Together, the team spent a week serving at United Methodist-affiliated Alaska Pacific University’s Spring Creek Farm, where they helped rebuild yurt platforms, harvested and prepared food for a local food pantry, and learned about sustainable agriculture and food insecurity in Alaska.

The Michigan Conference recently shared the story of their experience, including photos contributed by Angela. We’re grateful for the many ways Angela has spent this summer learning, serving, and growing in ministry, both here at Birmingham & Berkley First and beyond.

What a great day with 45C!
Our 4th and 5th graders spent their Summer Mission Day serving, connecting, and having plenty of fun along the way. We started by filling backpacks with school supplies for our Redford Brightmoor Initiative mission partners, helping local students get ready for a great school year. Then it was off to Whoa Zone at Bald Mountain for an afternoon of summer adventure!

Thank you to our wonderful volunteers who helped make the day possible, to those who donated supplies, and to all of our 45C kids for putting their faith into action. We loved welcoming our newest 4th graders and making some great memories together!

On July 30, Birmingham & Berkley First served as a host site for Evangelism in Today’s World, a one-day training presented virtually by Resurrection Church in Kansas City and led by Scott Chrostek. Participants gathered together at Birmingham First to learn, share ideas, and explore meaningful ways to connect with others and share the love of Christ in today’s world.

It was especially meaningful to learn from Scott, who grew up in our congregation and whose family has long been part of the life and ministry of Birmingham & Berkley First. Thank you to everyone who participated in this day of learning, conversation, and renewed commitment to reaching beyond our walls.
