A FRIENDLY REMINDER TAB!

THE DOORS ARE CLOSED TODAY.
TAKE IT PERSONALLY.

For four hundred years, this land ran on our backs and called it work ethic. They worked us in the fields, worked us in the yards, worked us to death, and buried the bill. Then they built a holiday around "labor" like it was ever a choice we got to make.

Not today.

Every ancestor in every one of those photographs — the ones bent over cotton, the ones crowded into a hold like cargo, the men who built a Brotherhood out of nothing but their own defiance — they didn't rest because someone allowed it. They rested because they stopped. Because refusal was the only leverage they had, and they used it anyway.

So we're using ours.

No in-person service. No livestream today. Nothing.

Not a delayed post, not a "check back later." Closed.

Our bodies are not a resource to be optimized around your convenience or anybody else's expectations. We will not perform rest for likes and then quietly go back to grinding tomorrow like nothing happened.

We come back on our terms —
live and virtual only, Wednesday, September 9 at 7PM
— because even our worship doesn't run on somebody else's clock.

Enjoy your Labor Day, Black bodies.
Rest isn't a reward.
It's reparation.

NOTE: GATHER COMMUNION ELEMENTS FOR THIS LIVE EXPERIENCE. BREAD. DRANK.

Texted you first thing this morning.

Now with a few minutes left at the end of my day…

27 years ago today our almost 10 pound oldest boy changed our lives.

Caleb Wayne Harris.
Caleb “well able”
Wayne “builder”-

I cannot recall how many times I’ve heard you say, “I got it Dad.” Living out your given name.

From the halls of Southwest Academy, to the challenging curriculum of the Texas Boys Academy to Xavier University, now to the University of Houston- you got it Son.

You got it my “k Wayne”- godly proud.

Happy Birthday.
