Birmingham Prayer Greater Birmingham Mayors' Prayer Breakfast
Thursday | May 6, 2021 | 7:00am
The Harbert Center The Reverend Billy Graham was the catalyst for this event.

It began in the aftermath of the 1963 Birmingham Campaign that saw the city of Birmingham unravel under the call for social change. The Christian community in America responded by having the first integrated event at Legion Field on Easter Sunday. Shortly thereafter, Christian businessmen joined together to have the first Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast as Mayor Albert Boutwell ushered in a new form of city Government for Birmingham, Alabama.

Inner Deliverance Through Daily Alignment

Day 9

When scarcity whispers, I choose as an heir.
Scripture Passage (KJV): “The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.” — Psalm 23:1

Expanded Truth:
Scarcity whispers quietly, convincing me that there is not enough—time, opportunity, support, or provision. It pressures decisions rooted in fear rather than trust. Choosing as an heir shifts my posture from survival to stewardship. As an heir, I lead from identity and provision, not anxiety.

Leadership Alignment:
Heirs lead from abundance, not panic.

Declaration: “I choose from inheritance, not fear.”

Prayer:
Lord, silence the voice of scarcity within me. Remind me of my identity and inheritance in You. Help me lead from trust rather than fear and provision rather than panic. Anchor my decisions in Your sufficiency.

Day 8
When I feel stuck, I trust that order precedes freedom.

Scripture Passage (KJV):
“Let all things be done decently and in order.” — 1 Corinthians 14:40

Expanded Truth:
Feeling stuck can tempt impulsive action, but freedom rarely comes from chaos. Order—small, aligned steps taken consistently—creates movement. Trusting that order precedes freedom reframes stagnation as an invitation to alignment rather than escape. Structure opens pathways that force never can.

Leadership Alignment:
Order creates momentum.

Declaration:
“Order opens the way forward.”

Prayer:
Father, help me resist impulsive escape and embrace faithful order. Show me the next aligned step, even if it feels small. Give me patience to trust Your process and courage to move forward in obedience. I believe freedom will follow alignment.

Day 7
When clarity feels distant, I return to stillness.

Scripture Passage (KJV):
“Be still, and know that I am God…”
— Psalm 46:10

Expanded Truth:
Clarity is rarely produced by force or overthinking. It often emerges when noise quiets and attention settles. Returning to stillness is an act of trust that wisdom does not need to be chased—it needs space. Stillness restores perspective and reconnects leadership to grounded
awareness.

Leadership Alignment:
Stillness recenters leadership presence.

Declaration:
“Stillness restores my sight.”

Prayer:
God, I release striving and return to stillness before You. Quiet the noise within me and restore my perspective. Teach me to wait without anxiety and trust without forcing outcomes. In stillness, help me see clearly again.

Inner Deliverance Through Daily Alignment

Day 2

When I feel overwhelmed, I remember what enters me shapes me.

Scripture Passage (KJV):
“Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.” — Proverbs 4:23

Expanded Truth:
Overwhelm is rarely caused by a single demand; it grows when unfiltered inputs accumulate inside the mind and soul. What I allow to enter me—information, opinions, pressures, expectations—quietly shapes my emotional and spiritual posture.

Remembering this returns responsibility to me, reminding me that clarity is protected not by control, but by discernment.

Leadership Alignment:
Leaders guard what they consume to protect clarity.

Declaration:
“I choose carefully what I allow to shape me.”

Prayer:
Lord, I bring my attention back under Your care. Show me what I have allowed to shape me that does not align with Your truth. Help me release unnecessary noise, pressure, and distraction.

Train my discernment so that what enters me strengthens rather than overwhelms me. Shape my inner life by Your wisdom and peace.

Inner Deliverance Through Daily Alignment

Day 1

When I feel rushed, I notice before I correct.

Scripture Passage (KJV):
“Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath.” — James 1:19

Expanded Truth:
Urgency often disguises itself as responsibility, but it is usually a signal rather than a command. When I rush, I bypass discernment and replace wisdom with reaction. By choosing to
notice first, I interrupt automatic behavior and regain awareness of what is actually happening within me. Awareness restores choice, and choice restores leadership.

Leadership Alignment:
Noticing slows the nervous system and restores executive control.

Declaration:
“I will not obey urgency. I choose awareness first.”

Prayer:
Father, slow my spirit and quiet the urgency within me. Help me recognize when pressure is trying to drive me instead of wisdom. Teach me to pause long enough to notice what is happening in my heart, my body, and my thoughts. Restore my clarity and help me respond from alignment rather than reaction. I trust You enough to move at the pace of truth.
