Mississippi and Louisiana politicians have embraced gambling in their states and the results have been predictable and devastating. A lottery, an abundance of casinos and addicts.

The truth is access equals addiction.

Sadly and unsurprisingly, Mississippi ranks as the 4th highest for gambling addiction and Louisiana is close behind at 5th highest. Alabama, is far lower at 39th. We should learn from our neighbors and say NO to expanding access to gambling in Alabama!

For many years, ALCAP has been on the front lines of the fight against gambling overrunning our politics, communities, churches and families in Alabama. It is no secret that the gambling lobby is well-funded and well-organized. However, the 2026 election cycle has exposed just how determined they are to overrun the legislature with pro-gambling sentiment.

In particular, out of state political groups have sent millions of dollars to legislative races across the state. Much of this activity has been questionable, such as what is likely a failure to comply with Alabama’s campaign finance disclosure laws. In addition we have seen these same organizations engage in strong political attacks against anti-gambling candidates.

The investigative report, compiled by retired Congressman Mo Brooks, linked on the webpage provides a detailed look into this insidious efforts to influence Alabama elections. We encourage our supporters to read it careful and remember what they learn when it comes time to make your voice heard in the political process.

This numbers in this report are current as of April 21, 2026, but will likely change as the gambling lobby continues to funnel even more money into Alabama elections.

For many years, ALCAP has been on the front lines of the fight against gambling overrunning our politics, communities, churches and families in Alabama. It is

The Alabama Citizens Action Program (ALCAP), a group that represents close to 3,500 churches as Moral Advocates in the state, is lauding the work of Republicans in the Legislature for passing bills that reflect the Christian values of the Yellowhammer State.

During the final days of the 2026 legislative session, lawmakers passed a piece of legislation that requires schools to display the Ten Commandments, and another piece of the legislation that requires abstinence only teaching, also called “s*xual risk avoidance,” instead of comprehensive s*x education.

Rev. Greg Davis, President and Chief Executive Officer of ALCAP, discussed the issue Friday on “The Rightside” with Allison Sinclair and Amie Beth Shaver, presented by Yellowhammer News.

“You know, schools don’t have to teach s*x education,” Davis said, “but if they do, we’d rather them not be teaching some federal program that was probably written by Planned Parenthood and and teach a program that I think more parents would be happier with without demonstrations of things, you know, where, how, here’s how you get an abortion and all these kind of things. So, so we’re pretty proud of that, taking Alabama from a comprehensive s*xual education state to a s*xual risk avoidance.”

On Tuesday, the Alabama Senate passed a very important bill for the future of Alabama. SB 99 would require Alabama public schools to post the Ten Commandments with a historical explanation in certain middle and high school classrooms and common areas. Schools would do this with donated funds.

The bill is currently in the House Education Policy committee, and we are hopeful it will make it out of committee and to the House floor for a final vote!

Alabama took an important step this week toward increasing accountability inside the state’s prison system. A bill introduced by Sen. Larry Stutts to establish outside oversight of Alabama’s overcrowded and dangerous correctional facilities was expected to receive a committee vote. That vote was paused after an agreement was reached with the Alabama Department of Corrections to launch a pilot oversight program.

Under the agreement, the Alabama Department of Examiners of Public Accounts will conduct direct oversight of three or four prisons over the next year to evaluate conditions and determine whether broader legislative action is needed.

This is good progress in the right direction for Alabama prisons and we look forward to continuing to see improvement. Thank you Senator Stutts!

Check out the Priority Talk Radio interview link in the comments, with ALCAP president Greg Davis and Senator Stutts.

A former Alabama prison inmate, parents of inmates, one of whom died in prison, and a former correctional officer were among those urging lawmakers Wednesday to pass a bill creating more oversight of the crowded and dangerous facilities.
