We believe Jesus Christ is the Son of God who died for our sins and was raised from the dead. Each of us became Christians by confessing this belief, repenting of our sins, and being baptized into Jesus' saving death and resurrection (Romans 6:3-4; 1 Pet. 3:21; Acts 2:38). We have been saved by the grace of God through faith in Jesus (Ephesians 2:8; Colossians 2:12). The love of Christ and our fai
th in His grace continues to transform us as we no longer live for ourselves but for Him who died and rose again on our behalf (2 Corinthians 5:14-15). We are Christians and nothing more. When people become Christians, they have now been purchased for God by the blood of Jesus. This blood-bought group is called "the church" (Acts 20:28). So, everyone everywhere who becomes a Christian is added to Jesus' church, "which is His body" (Acts 2:41, 47; Ephesians 1:22-23). There is only "one body," one church (Ephesians 4:4). "But," you might say, "there are many different churches with different names and different beliefs!" You're right. Today, there are many so-called denominations (divisions) but you will not find this in the New Testament. This is what we mean when we say we are Christians and nothing more. We are not connected to any group of churches, we do not go by manmade names, and we follow nothing but the Bible. The Edwards Lake church of Christ is simply a group of blood-bought Christians who live in the same area and worship and work together just like we read Christians doing in the New Testament (1 Corinthians 1:2; Galatians 2:2). This is biblical Christianity, pure and simple. What is our mission? We hope you see that our primary goals reflect Jesus' goals for His people (Matthew 28:19-20) and the examples we have of Christians in the New Testament.
• We strive to spread the gospel to all in our community so that others may be saved from their sins and experience the transformation and hope God offers through Jesus Christ (Romans 1:16; 5:1-5). We also financially support men preaching the gospel in other places in our nation and throughout the world.
• In love, we work together as Christians to build one another up in the faith (Ephesians 4:16). Every week there are multiple opportunities to gather with other Christians to pray and grow in our knowledge of God's Word and how to apply that knowledge to everyday life.
• We assemble every Sunday to partake of the Lord's Supper, the memorial meal of Jesus' death and resurrection (Acts 20:7; 1 Corinthians 11:23-26). We also worship God in song, prayer, and study of His Word. Each assembly is not only an opportunity to praise God but also to encourage and be encouraged by one another (Hebrews 10:24-25). We encourage you to become a Christian and only a Christian. We invite you to join us in serving our Savior and King, Jesus Christ. It will change your life. It will change your family. It will change your eternal destiny.
