Theme for this weekend:
“The Worst Guest List Ever”
Matthew 9:9-13

Here’s a simple statement from this weekend’s text: “’Follow me,’ [Jesus] told him, and Matthew got up and followed Him.” There’s a whole lot behind that moment, and the dinner party full of “tax collectors and sinners” that followed. How could Jesus hang out with people who were…SO different than His other disciples? Here’s another simple statement: “[as you go] make disciples…”

As we go here and there on vacation this summer, is it really that simple to share the love and the light of Jesus with people around us? What if they’re different from us? Into our nervousness, Jesus speaks: “I desire mercy.”

"Sent into a Broken World"
Matthew 28:16-20
Preacher: Pastor Evan Gaertner

The Bible begins with God’s declaration of creation as good. However, sin, death, and the devil attack this foundation, causing divisions, confusion, and loneliness. Despite the distance between God’s goodness and our sinful world, Jesus Christ bridges this gap.

Throughout the Gospels, we rejoice in the moments that Jesus defeats death and brings life back into the world. Then, at the end of the Gospel of Matthew, Jesus sends His church to make disciples. The Great Commission is a fitting vision of how the church is called by Christ to bring the goodness of God into the world.

Take Five for the week of May 31 - June 6

Galatians 2:20
I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.

Take five minutes to do these five things with family or friends!

1. SHARE your blessings and challenges.
2. READ the Bible passage.
3. TALK about the Bible passage.
4. PRAY for your blessings and challenges.
5. BLESS one another.

For additional study, read Galatians 2:15-21

Our Shepherd members and friends planted 1,000 flags yesterday to honor soldiers who gave their lives for our freedom. Many thanks to all who participated!

“For love of country they accepted death, and thus resolved all doubts, and made immortal their patriotism and virtue.”
- James A. Garfield

We thank God today for those soldiers, for all veterans, and all who currently serve in our armed forces. We pray for His comfort and peace for family members of the fallen. And we pray for that glorious day when God’s peace will reign on earth.

"They shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks; nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war anymore." — Isaiah 2:4
