"The Counter-Cultural Way of the Cross"
Matthew 16:24-25; Romans 12:9,20

What does it truly mean to "take up your cross" in a culture of self-protection? In this week’s sermon, we explore the counter-cultural call of Matthew 16 and Romans 12. Following Jesus means blessing our persecutors and even feeding our enemies. It means realizing that Jesus is in charge, not our own egos.

When our human frailty inevitably causes us to fall short of this high standard, we find absolute rest in Christ's unearned grace. Hearing the glorious promises of our gracious Heavenly Father in Jeremiah 15, we are freed to live out radical, self-giving love in a selfish world.

"Rooted in Christ"
Colossians 2:6-7

Our school year theme is “Rooted in Christ.” We will use Colossians 2:6-7 throughout the school year to find encouragement to remain deeply rooted in Jesus. God works to root us in Jesus through His Word and Sacraments. Roots are important for trees. The roots deliver water and nutrients to the rest of the tree. The roots keep the tree from falling over. The roots keep the tree secure when high winds blow. In Jesus Christ, we find nourishment in the forgiveness of sins. Remaining in Christ will help prevent the decay of our faith. When we are deeply rooted in Jesus, we are able to endure hard times. Rejoice! God desires you to be part of His promises.
