Join IPC for an evening of extraordinary music in the Sanctuary. The Patricia Byrne Memorial Concert for Organ and Orchestra will be held in the Sanctuary on Tuesday, April 28, at 7 p.m., featuring world-renowned organist Vincent Dubois, titular organist of Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, alongside 48 members of the Alabama Symphony under the direction of Dr.Jeff McLelland.

Together, they will present works by Marcel Dupré and Franz Liszt in a setting that brings the full beauty and power of organ and orchestra to life. This concert is free and open to the community. We invite you to experience the richness of sacred music in a space designed for both worship and artistry.

A Century of Worship in IPC’s Sanctuary: This Sunday, we give thanks for 100 years of worship in IPC’s Sanctuary, first dedicated on Good Friday, April 2, 1926.

What was described at its dedication as “a thing of beauty” by The Birmingham News, it remains a lasting expression of faith, vision, and the generations who have gathered here to worship God.

On Sunday, April 12, join us for one combined worship service at 11 am as we mark this milestone in the life of IPC. The 11 am service will be the only worship service. Sunday School will be held at 10:00 a.m. as usual.

In this Sunday’s service, the scripture and dedication litany come from that original service a century ago, connecting us to those who first filled this sacred space. It is a meaningful reminder that we are part of something far greater, rooted in faith and sustained across generations.

Mark your calendar: Join us for three special Sunday School classes on the history of our Sanctuary: May 31, June 7, and June 21.

IPC shares in the heartbreak of our community as we grieve the tragic loss of Ella Cook, a student at Brown University and a member of the Cathedral Church of the Advent. Ella was also the niece of IPC members Sissy and David Austin. All who knew Ella speak of her as a bright light and a faithful follower of Jesus Christ, and her loss is difficult to comprehend. We pray for comfort for the Cook and Austin families and all who loved Ella, and for the congregation and staff of the Cathedral Church of the Advent as they grieve.

We are also heartbroken by the horrific violence that claimed so many lives within the Jewish community in Australia as they joyfully gathered to celebrate the beginning of Hanukkah. We condemn antisemitism in all its forms and pray for comfort for the Jewish community in Australia, in Birmingham, and around the world as they mourn.

The Gospel of John reminds us that Jesus Christ is the Light of the world, and that “the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not overcome it.” Even when the darkness feels heavy and close, we trust that God is present, surrounding us with comfort, grace, mercy, peace, and love.

May God surround all who grieve today as we join our lament to theirs, placing our whole trust in God and in the redemption of all things through our Lord Jesus Christ.

“The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.” ~Psalm 34:18

We are pleased to welcome Wesley Walker as IPC’s new Accounting Manager. Wesley joins us after eight years with Altec and brings strong experience in accounting, along with a genuine commitment to serving through his work.

A Homewood native and University of Alabama graduate, Wesley grew up at Trinity United Methodist Church, where he remains active in their youth program. He and his wife, Abby, a teacher at Hall Kent Elementary, are parents to their almost two-year-old daughter, Evelyn.

We are also grateful to Beth Grauel, who has come out of retirement to help train Wesley during this transition. Thank you, Beth, for sharing your knowledge and care as we welcome Wesley to the IPC staff.

Thank you to our Crop Drop volunteers! At this year’s event, more than 100 volunteers helped bag 32,000 pounds of sweet potatoes for 25 local agencies serving our neighbors in need.

Thank you to every person who shared their time, energy, and enthusiasm to make this event such a success. Your generosity and teamwork embody the spirit of IPC, and we are deeply grateful for you.

From ensuring paychecks and bills were always handled with care to supporting the daily life of our ministries, Beth’s work has been a cornerstone of IPC. We celebrate her remarkable legacy with deep gratitude as she begins her well-deserved retirement.
