Today we give thanks to God for the gift of our country and the hard-won freedoms we have come to enjoy. And we pray that our land might be a land where all are able to flourish, where human dignity is respected and the downtrodden find refuge in good laws, and above all where justice and decency shape our life together. May God bless our efforts, direct and preserve us! The reformer Martin Luther may not have been a founding father, but he is onto something, offering words of wisdom when it comes to Christians setting the tone for our common life.

We give thanks for the life and faithful witness of our sister, Janice Edwards, who has now gone to rest in her Lord and Savior.

The funeral service will be held at Valhalla Funeral Home in Huntsville at 2 o'clock p.m. this coming Saturday, January 31. There will be a viewing preceding the funeral, beginning at 12 noon.

We are delighted to showcase the Birmingham Heritage Band. Pastor Malysz will offer a homily on "God's Abiding Word of Love." --- "Unto us a child is born ... Mighty God ... Prince of Peace!"
