Prologue

Safe Anger did not begin with a grand ambition to save others. It began with a simple longing: that I might first survive my own pain.

I felt that unless I learned how to understand and embrace my anger, neither my faith, my relationships, nor even my own life could remain whole.

Yet as I continued to write, research, and revisit this subject through years of counseling, something remarkable began to happen.

In the very process of understanding anger, I found myself coming back to life. At the same time, I discovered that those around me were also growing and healing alongside me.

Anger was no longer a shameful emotion. It became a pathway toward restoration.

Faith was no longer the power to suppress emotions, but the grace to embrace them, understand them, and discover God's presence within them.

What began as a small question gradually became a much deeper and broader journey. Looking back, I can only confess that it was God Himself who faithfully guided every step.

He nurtured the thoughts that needed to grow and led this work to the people and places where it was needed.

Today, I humbly confess:

«"Every step that has brought this book into the world has been entirely by the grace of God. To His name alone be all praise."»

It is my sincere hope that this book will help readers no longer fear their anger, but instead follow it with courage until they encounter their true selves.

May this book become, for some, a moment to pause; for others, the beginning of understanding; and for many, a gentle turning point from which life can be seen with fresh hope.

When you close this book, I hope you will be able to whisper these words to yourself:

«"You no longer have to try so hard.

It's okay not to be okay.

You do not have to keep proving yourself in order to earn someone's approval.

You are already a beloved child of God."»

I offer my heartfelt gratitude to the professors whose wisdom and guidance made this book possible.

I am especially grateful to Bishop Jeong-Seok Kim, Dr. Jong-Hwan Kim, President Je-Eun Oh, President Kyung-Dong Yoo, Bishop Jong-Mo Yoon, and Dr. Kyung-Soo Lim for graciously contributing their endorsements. (The endorsements are presented in Korean alphabetical order.)

My sincere thanks also go to my dear friends who shared this journey with me, to my brothers and sisters in Christ whose prayers and encouragement sustained me, and to the members of Cheongam Christian Academy, New Jersey Cheongam Church, and Choconut Center Christian Church for their unwavering love and support.

Above all, I express my deepest love and gratitude to my devoted husband, Rev. Tae-Soo Kim, and to my beloved family, who faithfully walked with me through every step of this journey.
